Vibrations
Truck is finnaly all finished, with the exception of the new cam, running and driving great at lower speeds. When I break 2000 rpm in 5th (speedo not hooked yet, about 60mph) I get a vibration that increases with speed, nothing below that, tires were just balanced and it doesn't come from the motor so I'm thinking driveshaft, could this be from the u-joints being off angle, or is it most likely the driveshaft out of balance? any experience with this? if it is the later, how can I set up a fluid balance in my driveshaft? I heard this would work. I have a one piece shaft. Any guess on a price for getting it balanced? Thanks for the help!
Jesse

Measured the length, went to the local auto wreckers and picked one out from the pile of driveshafts, got adapter u-joints to fit the slip yoke and rear end, removed the center bearing bracket and did a little trimming on the cross member for clearance under the shaft, not that hard, and no more center bearing shudder upon acceleration. Being a used shaft I spose it could be out but who knows. Any help?
Thanks

just pull a shaft from a 73 up if you have a short wheel base

Have your driveshaft balanced and reset your pinion angle. The pinion angle has changed when you changed from 2pc to 1pc shaft. Also on lwb trucks it will whip at higher speeds. We have tried 1pc shafts in lwb customers trucks and finally got custom aluminum shafts to work after resetting the pinion angle, less weight less whip. Our race trucks have 2pc shafts and BRUTE FORCE brand carrier bearing and u-joints with no trouble so far, we tried 1pc in them and they shook so bad at the big end (8500 rpm with a powerglide) they broke the u-joint yoke.

my driveshaft is 68" long about, never thought about it flexing. I spose I should get it balanced profesionally. How do I reset the pinion angle though? Shims between the axle pads and control arms? This is where a 4 bar setup would be really nice! I took most of the lip off the bottom of the inside of the driveshaft loop with a cutting torch, not real pretty, but it gives the shaft all the clearance I need and it doesn't look like it should weaken it in a critical way. Anyone with any info about the fluid balance? Thanks
for the help, Jesse
