Performance calipers interchangeability

I bought a set of Early Classic's dropped spindles that accept the calipers from my '72 parts truck and changed my '67 over to 5 on 5" bolt pattern in the process with a set of cross-drilled rotors.

My question is does anyone know if there are any bolt-in "performance" calipers available?

The stopping power is okay with what I have, but - as is typical with me - I want MORE. I just don't want to go the BAER route (I believe it was) yet as they did on "Copperhead".

i've lloked around and the onlything that i can see that might work is the Willwood GMIII's.. They have the same dim's on the bolt holes.. Just dont want to pay 130.00 ea and they not work .. Willwood won't confirm that they will or will not work on our trucks. We do use the same brake pad as the chevells, which those GMIII's work on.. They are still just a single piston, just lightened Aluminum (sp?).. Let me know if you come accross anything...

Hmmmm. So the Wilwood GMIII's are aluminum. Well, that's an improvement. Aluminum dissipates heat better than cast steel. That would help stopping power in loooong braking situations or in multiple brake stops - one after another. But how much? Well, that's the rub. Now to see just how much of an improvement AND, of course, if they actually fit. I'll see if I can dig some more info out. If I figure out anything, I'll post it.

I looked at Baer and SSBC and neither have a caliper only kit for these trucks. You will more than likely have to adapt something to amke it work.

Well, I'm still checking, but I did find this site http://www.g-machines.com/forum/showthread.php?p=249220. Look at posts #6 and #17, This guy is running a '72 Chevy Nova and has installed the front brake calipers from one of our '72 Chevy pickups. Another guy on there - I believe - has installed the Wilwood GMIII calipers in place of his originals (maybe with an adapter fitting for the brake hoses - still checking).

It's a PDF file with a dimensioned drawing. Now to verify that the dimensions of the '72 calipers that I have are compatible with the Wilwood GMIIIs. Then, unless I determine otherwise, I'll probably go ahead and buy them.

BTW, the dimensions of my bolt-in rotors are 11.875" diam. x 1.25" thick. They were Summit front discs: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku for reference.

actually performance on line does offer a 1 and 2 piston aluminum caliper for our trucks now. The 1 piston was in the dec issue of CCT. i called and they also have a 2 piston version, but you have to take about a 1/4 to a half of your spindle ear for clearance. These are brand new design and not the Howe calipers that some have tried. They run about 180 a pair i believe. Just call them. I was looking for the same thing a month ago and after about 1 week of research and calling they were the only ones i know of besides baer, wilwood. Just so you know the 2 piston is not on the website yet, but available (at least as of 2 wks ago)

the Porsche Boxster -Brembo- calipers are very easy to adapt to lots of stuff. I am debating using a set I have on my homemade 4 wheel disc conversion on my 72. They are 4 or 6 piston and work great.

Check the suspension forum. I'm pretty sure I saw some threads in there talking about a performance caliper that would bolt to stock or dropped spindles. I think it was in a CPPJeff thread.
