Re: dmv fee

Things have probably changed in the decades since I left California, but when I lived there pickup trucks were “required” to have commercial plates. If the truck did not have a commercial plate and was caught hauling a box of feathers in the back, it was claimed the ticket would cost even more than the plates. I know it sounds stupid, but nobody ever said the DMV has to make sense. It might be worth reading the applicable sections of the Vehicle Code to identify any potential issues with dropping the commercial plates. All of it is available online with enough research.

I live in Washington and pay 50% more for the registration on my 1960 than for my late model Toyota and Honda. It’s annoying, but I’m not aware of any options around here to avoid the extra cost. We had a taxpayer revolt years ago which rolled back registration fees, so they just find others ways to skirt the issues and collect the money anyway.

Re: dmv fee

You can drop the comercial plates but you have to put a camper shell on the truck.

Re: dmv fee

AZ finally woke up you need only to have classic ins. and a historic vehicle plate. It cost me $115.00 for 5 years for my 70 C10 . If you have these no emmissions required. Thanks to all who helped make this pass.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. You don't need the historic vehicle plate or classic insurance. Historic plates are optional as are personalized plates and usually cost more money. I have the standard Arizona issued plate and standard liability insurance on all three of my 64-66 trucks. Hauling anything in these trucks is a not issue here in Arizona and I only pay $19.94 a year.

You are lucky to live outside of Phx. We took a 1978 4X4 Luv to DMV they made us produce the collectors Ins info or we would have to get emmissions. You are right about the plates he got standard plates. I always put the copper plates on my Trucks.

1. I'm not thinking of using the bed since I ubersexual a other cnotch and the bed will be raised.and from what I heard so far from dropping the commercial license you can't haul anything that's above your bed. So... As long as the item don't go above your bed your good

Re: dmv fee

Mine is a 64gmc and it just cost me $163. I don't know for sure but the wait rateing is not on how heavy the truck is but how much it can haul.As for getting rid of the comercail plates, last I herd was you needed a camper "permantly mounted" . If you don't have comercail plates and get cought with anything in the backend , even a 4 way lugwrech, you have to pay for the com plates plus fines.

I pay for comercial plates seeing I live in the city and can park in yellow zones. They are only 30 min parking but make it easy to find a spot.

Re: dmv fee

Now that we have discussed tag fees, what is the deal with bringing a 45 year old truck in from out of state. Is there a exemption for classic vehicles or would you have to install special pollution equipment ??? Kieth

A guy from California sants to buy my 65 Chevy truck but was unsure about bringing it in the state??

My truck came from Oklahoma. No pollution equipment required as long as its '76? or older.

Mine was $101 last year. I thought that the fee was going to be lower this year. I should be getting my renewal notice in the next few weeks. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
