55-66 bed question?
On the 1955 (2nd series) to 1966, was the stepside mounted spare tire used only on the long bed, or was it available on the short bed as well? There's a guy on another forum wanting to mount one on his short bed with the intent of mounting up his spare. I found him a good used fender with the spare mount, but he is concerned about whether or not it will work.

Re: 55-66 bed question?
I am also looking for a short bed fender with a spare tire cut out. I received some help from other posters regarding the difference between short bed and long bed spare tire fenders.

Re: 55-66 bed question?
Gentlemen, thank you for the info. I thought the option was available on both, but I did not want to spread misinformation.

Re: 55-66 bed question?
That appears to be a long bed fender. Use the picture above to identify any fenders you might find.
There are some differences in beds from year to year although I do not know if that affects the fenders in regards to the tire notch. Most of the differences are in the long beds but I believe there are some changes to the short beds possibly including bracing on the tire carrier. I believe there was some commentary and a few pictures in this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=505728 |

Re: 55-66 bed question?
i believe that craigslist fender is a short bed look at all these pics
the long bed cutout is very close to the wheel well lip and very shallow front to back it looks to be in very good condition too, lot better than fender bender damage i had to fix

Re: 55-66 bed question?
To me the distance from bottom of fender to cutout is the giveaway. And rear portion of cutout is more vertical on long box fender. I could be wrong though. I suppose the real answer is to get actual measurements.
If the OP wants some measurements from a longbox fender I'm happy to help. |
