My new project

This is my first time on here and I love reading all the threads. I just picked up a 79 shortbed for $1,500 but has a cracked engine block. No big deal. Looking for a cheap engine block to throw in so I can smog the sucker. Just a few days ago, I ran into a deal on a 2008 chevy 5.3 LS MOTOR, Trans, and 373 rearend (has less than 50miles on drivetrain) for $2,300. And if your wondering where in the heck I got this deal at, I work at an automotive advanced concept car center and we are building a 2008 chevy 1500 hybrid/electric vehicle. This is my shop truck project for my business www.orangecountyhotrods.com (I will post the pics on the web later) and can't wait to get started soon. After I get the truck smogged, it will be torn apart and a full frame off resto will be done. It will be slammed with 20"s so far. NU2TRUX, I really like the tire and Vintec rim combo on your truck. Can you give me the sizes of rims and backspace and tire size of whats on your truck? This will give me an idea of what to keep my eye on for a good deal. As you can see, this will be on a budget and I am doing all the work myself only because I have been doing this for 20+ years. The 55-57 chevy is my specialty. These trucks will be something new to me and can't wait to make the ultimate daily driver shop truck. There are some awesome pic of trucks on here and will be asking for tips as we go.

Welcome to the board!

Get that website up and going with a bunch of pics!!!

Why didn't I run into you in '92 when I lived out there. You could've had my '57 to rebuild for me... I still have it and it's in 100 pieces in the garage.

If I understand correctly, they did a rolling changeover in 79 so some of them came with the square headlights as well. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

Re: My new project

Nice score. The rear end may not be worth much to you, being 6 lug. Would be easier to sell or trade it for a proper 12 bolt or 10 bolt for these trucks with 3.42's or 3.73's depending on what tire diameter you want to run.

Re: My new project

Yes, I know what your talkn about on the 6 lug rearend. I will probably off it and rebuild the 12 bolt that is in there. This new 2008 rearend has the 373 with a locking diff in it.
Also, I don't care for the square headlights. I am going to put the 78 grill and round lights in it.

Wow, even with the bad engine, Id say that was a nice starting point for 1500. Wish I had started off that well lol

Re: My new project

orangecountyhotrods welcome to the forum.

Note to N2TRUX: Man, I clicked on your link and all I can just say is "WOW" what a great build story. I only read some of it and it reminds me of a children's book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". A lot of details to consider when we look at our trucks and plan to one thing and we end up doing something totally different, imagine that.

I did not have time to finish the link but will go back to it later. It is an example of what a group of friends that get together to solve a common goal and freely give inspiration to others that makes this site and others like it so effective. Thanks for sharing!
