Detroit Lockers - Which one

I was thinking about a Detroit Locker, then I saw this
"Detroit Trueloc"
Anybody have any experiance with this one or for that matter any Detroit Locker.

have no idea what a detroit truloc is i suspect an inexpensive lobudget posi of some type
i've run a number of the original detroit locker performance rears they are an acquired taste but they are pretty stong and holdup to alot of abuse for true hardcore oldschool performance applications

I know in the jeep world the Detroit Lockers are among the best of the automatic lockers and I know a lot of guys that run them. I don't think I'd want a locker for a street application though.

I have a detroit truetrac limited slip in the front of my jeep and it works fine.

I also have an eaton limited slip in my 72 and it has worked great! BTW eaton makes detroit lockers.

interesting// the thing that would steer me away from the truloc is that it is nonserviceable i'd rather stick with the original eaton posi or with higher horsepower applications the detroit locker both longtime tried and true rod material

i have a detroit locker in my kaiser jeep m715 army truck and it has a dana 70. its not...... and road friendly setup. if your on the gas its locked up period.....

Yah I found it very intriguing also. I only take this truck out to play on week ends so a tried and true Detroit Locker would be OK with me. My son works at a parts house so the Locker would run me ~$500. This new “Truetrac” would run me ~$450 so it s no big deal.

I just wanted to know if anyone’s used one and what they thought of it. I’d hate to install it and then have the 454 eat it for lunch

I Hope You Have Alot Of $$$$$$$ For Tires If You Install A Locker And On Wet Roads Its Easy To Spin Out. Also Gas Milage Goes Way Down......
I,ve Got Em And Run Em Alot. Oh Yea When They Ratchet You,ll Think The Rear End Broke.

Yes! A Detroit Locker is the way to go. I have one sitting in the garage with a new set of 3.73s that are just waiting to see some torque.

There`s only one Detroit Locker,btw.Not tryin`to be contrary,but have alot of experience with them and run one in my driver.Tires last just fine if you drift turns and keep it light on corners and turns you can`t drift through.Rotating tires helps,too.They`re not quite a spool and have a bit of give over those(ratchet action).I love them and snatch them up when I see them.Haven`t noticed any mileage difference at all on any trucks I`ve had.They`ll scearch just enough to let someone know what you got if you`re showing off and they know what they`re listening to.I like to give about three little ones like I can`t help it when I show off.You know because the engine isn`t even workin`.But,that`s how easy it is to control.It`s all in the right foot.

When Currie built my rear end, theytold me that if I was doing any burnouts, a locker would be my choice. (its a durability issue) Otherwise a tru-trac or limited slip would be the way to go (better for road course work because of a more gradual (clutch action rather than locker action) operation.

Nothing road friendly about an M715,that`s for sure,right?Not arguing,just saying driving technique compensates the matter and makes it a roadable diff.At least that`s how I feel from my experience in the vehicles I`ve run them in.They can break,too.But doing burnouts on pavement with big tires can certainly help.I twisted a short shaft in two on a truck with divorced t-case.That shaft only has enough tube to conect the two ends,like 3".It twisted like a sardine can lid opens.I had been doing burnouts on "The Circuit" in town before ending up running around a motocross track,then playing around in a sediment pond trying to get stuck.I was climbing up out of there and,"Wham!!!!thud thud thud thud...",we were suddenly drifting back into the muck.That truck had 14.50/37s and a Locker.The Locker survived.Ever replace a driveshaft lying in a silt pond(hung over?)?Yeah.that`s what it`s all about!
