mo. 1969 gmc 6x6 army trucks 4 sale
2 day i saw 2 1969 gmc 6x6 2.5 ton army trucks 4 sale in the paper. what r they and what do they look like? if anybody is interested ill post the phone no.s of the ad in the paper. does anybody have any pictures of what they look like?.................. thanks DAN

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |

I want one of those 6x6s... always have. Don't even care what make because quality is generally the same for all of them. All the (relatively) newer ones share the same parts anyways after WWII (Starting at the end of the war) IIRC. Hopefully, one of these days!

thats so crazy, im actually in the process of buying one right now. a 69 duece and a half. I have to sell my V8 s10 first in order to free up some cash.

The army has been phasing them out for about 5 years now, so the market is flooded with them. These trucks are as bullet proof as they came, but there are a few things too look at on them. (I was a mechanic in the Army from 93 to 01) The main things to look at is the brakes, and the entire air system.
The M-35 has an outdated air over hydralic brake system that sucks at best. The hydrovac and master cylinder seem to go bad on a regualr basis. The iar pump is normally a pretty good unit, but the air lines is what you have to look at. The mentality of most army mechanics is that if it'll roll and maintain air pressure, then it is good. Unfortunatly, that meant alot of high pressure leaks that grow with time. Anyone who is buying one, I say replace all the copper air lines with the new plastic ones. They are WAY easier to work with, and you can get a roll of the air line at any dealer that deals with big trucks, or a repair shop that caters to the same. I'm not sure, but I think NAPA carries the rolls of tubing too. |
