Lightbulb Steering column to gearbox, pics?

I need to see some pictures of the steering columns to the gearbox. Will the same piece work off a 3spd column and an automatic tilt?

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

It's helping a little. One from in the cab would be a big help too. I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing to install the column.

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

I don't have one in the cab. But it has only one clamp IIRC.

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

So inside the cab there's only one other mount right?

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

I thought they was 3 clamps inside 2 under the dash and 1 other closer to the cluster that clamps the rubber part of the colum I may be wrong it might just be 1 under the dash and one to hold the rubber ... But Who knows I Still haven't mouted mine Niether on that end, maybe I will do it tomorrow...

Subscribed to Thread JIK I'm wrong.....I might need this info too ...

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

There's the one on the firewall (strap around the column), the ring inside the firewall (under dash), one towards the top of the column under dash (i think) and the thin plate that is directly under the rubber near the gauge cluster...

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

I just shortened my 72 column and there is one band clamp at the firewall under the master and one strap at the cluster.

I use all the brackets from my 3spd manual to auto tilt swap.

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

Did you use the same shaft connecting the column to the gearbox?

No...the column shaft is totally different on a tilt.....The shaft that the rag joint connects to, I'm not sure if the tilt one is the same or not as my tilt was complete including both shafts. I just used the mounting brackets & rag joint from the manual column.

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

Ok, here's a little more information on what I'm doing. I'm trying to convert my 67 from 3spd to auto tilt. I took the truck apart roughly a year ago and trying to figure out the brackets and what goes where. I think I just figured out the upper bracket has the rubber squares on it where the brake and clutch pedals used to rest. I'm thinking it might be a different bracket for 68-72 since the e-brake changed. I've found the lower(outer firewall bracket. I have another piece that I think goes with the upper. It's flat partial rounded strip. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Steering column to gearbox, pics?

70GMCER, do you have a picture of the upper bracket and how it's mounted? Thanks again.
