How does dash speaker mount?

I am going to put a new stereo and speakers in my 67 and I would like to use the original bracket and put a couple of speakers up above the radio under the dash. I have the bracket and I did this before in another truck , but I can't remember how that bracket mounts. Does it mount to the radio or the dash? Last time I took out the original speaker and replaced it with 2 speakers that I mounted in a homemade bracket and attached to the original bracket. I want to do this again. Thanks

I did exactly the same thing. I found an original mono speaker bracket that fit behind the dash. I cut a piece of sheet metal to fit in the bracket and hold two round speakers in the factory bracket. If memory serves there was a dimple in the firewall that I drilled out. One sheet metal screw then held the bracket to the firewall.

I thought thats how it went , but I don't remember having to drill any holes out.I got the brackets from a friend and one looks like it mounts to the firewall and the other looks like it mounts to the back of the radio, I dont think I used the one to the radio though. thanks
