86 1 ton, nothing on guage panel works!!!

Nothing on my gauge panel works. No oil pressure, temp, etc. blinkers work and I think a couple lights. Is there a simple fix besides a fuse?? And I tried to search but my phone wouldn't let me enter it in..

well i know how you feel when your phones the only access to the site. Ok now is the dash apart? does it look like some ones been messing around with it? and it could possibly be a negative dash ground isnt hooked up or connectors are all messed up

Re: 86 1 ton, nothing on guage panel works!!!

Thanks guys ill check the power wire this weekend to see if I get anything there. I've had the cluster out once to look at the board but never really dug into it.. It would be nice to get them working again!!!

There are several power and ground wires in the cluster plug. X2 on checking those splices.

Powers are Pink with a stripe and the grounds are black.

Ground the green temp sender wire and it should nail the gauge at the hot end.
Ground the oil pressure sender wire and it should drop the needle to 0.
Fuel should drop to E with the sender wire shorted to ground.

Re: 86 1 ton, nothing on guage panel works!!!

id look at every black wire and retrace em back and forth. then the same with the positive wires, which are more like both sencing, and hot wire. if one bulb was removed, or it blew, the tandem circuit wouldnt work. just like your tail lights and 12 volts with switchs and what not, its like one big wire cluster computer, really suffisticated, would have hated the job of putting the electrical system in cars back then and alot more todays time...
