power brake booster?

How do you know when your booster is going out? When I press on the brakes at idle, the idle speeds up and there is a hissing sound. Sound like the booster or just a vacuum leak?

I have been told that they are about $80 new. I think I need one for my 73. If you find a good deal please let me know.
