Should have expected it

Switching back to AC Delco R44T plugs. I guess I shouldn't be surprised they are made in China.

I am thinking of putting in Autolite 24 spark plugs.

They used to be made in the Mt Morris, Michigan, but NAFTA and numerous other “Trade Treaties” changed all that.

Re: Should have expected it

It is what it is.
The new AC DELCO Master Brake Cylinder I recently bought is made in China.
Crossing my fingers on quality and function.
Nothing new that we haven’t discussed here before on this subject.
Sadly, products across the spectrum are sold, distributed and supported here in the USA, but manufactured overseas.

I use Denso spark plugs which I believe are made in Southfield, Michigan.

Lightbulb Re: Should have expected it

I have bought scores of good USA made NOS AC spark plugs from EBAY. There seems to be a good supply of them still out there, and if stored properly will last centuries.

Here are some good R44T plugs:

11 for around $50:

Honestly, it's not a bad idea! It might be the way to go down the road.
I'm running AC Delco's I ordered through Summit. They've been good so far, but haven't put many miles on them.

The irony of having to buy from a Japanese company to get parts made in America is inescapable ;-)

Not knocking the company, btw. I've used tons of ND parts over the years

AC Delco parts have been made in China for the past 8-10 years....maybe longer

I've been real happy with 'hecho in japon' NGK YR5 in my tired, Delco-fouling 350. I haven't had to pull a plug since I installed them.

When they first left Michigan, they went to Mexico. I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the Mexican build, so I dropped the AC brand, as it had lost its meaning. I guess Corporate found they could get the plugs made better and cheaper in China. At least cheaper.

Talking Re: Should have expected it

I always call NGK the "No Good Kind".

In my R/C stadium truck, I use NGK plugs and it seems to like them. I run Champions in my Kohler small engines in my vintage Cub Cadets, and NOS green ribbed AC plugs in my older GM vehicles.

I'll have to look it up, or check the rig, and get back to you.

OK:
W16EPR-U

Looks like I'm running rich, too.

Re: Should have expected it

Got the aftermarket AC R44Ts installed. No blood spilled which is unusual for me. Factory air and the back 2 are the knuckle busters. Fire it up tomorrow. Raining.

Re: Should have expected it

I'm using the AC R44T in my 292, because I have the later head with the tapered seats.
To me, that Denso W16EPR-U in your picture looks way to long, but best I could find, it does cross reference to the AC R44XL which is the correct plug for the inline six with gasketed seat.

I think I did use AC R44XLs in my 292 back when they still made them.
Also ran Champion RN 11 or 12YC but I can't really remember.

I have a set of US made AC 45 plugs, but my mechanic says I don't need to go a range hotter on my 350 in the Jimmy.

Unless you have HEI. Then you will want the R45Ts.

I do have HEI on the 350 [and the 292].
But as I understand it, the only difference is in electrode gap:
.035 for Points and .045 for HEI.

You are right. I had a brain fart, thinking about the gap number, not the heat range.
