Wood Grain Door Panels Inserts

Has any one one here repaired these aluminum panels that fit onto the 1972 door panels ?

The ones I have are pretty bad and before I go looking for better ones to work with ,,I would like to get some pictures or ideas of some that have been refurbashed by means of painting them or re-surfaced with a stick on paper ,,ect ect .. I know I can buy new for $240 or so but if I get some good feed back on how to redo a set of used good ones I would like to try it ..
Or if anyone has a great looking pair for sale give me a hollar.. papa

Heres a picture of mine Attachment 400719. ..papa

Re: Wood Grain Door Panels Inserts

I'm looking for a set of the exact wood grain door panels for my 72. Where in the world can you buy them for $250? I've seen them at LMC but they don't have the correct silver bead on them. Thanks.

I read the LMC catalog as saying that the wood grain inserts are to be used on Original Panels only..and I thought by LMC stating this , that they would fit my door panels,, the cost is 119.95 each ($250 approx.)plus shipping.

I didn't read anything about the bead (chrome ) and just figured that I would have to use the ones I have as they don't sell them .

Does this answer your question ? papa

The $119 price from LMC is a for a set (pair). Link If this price were per side you would have to specify LH or RH. Also, it says (1) is required.

I would not be happy with raised chrome stripe missing as depicted in the photo. I would want NOS.

Anyone know where NOS can be located?

i think they look better with the wood grain off.and just put the metal trim back on your panel.

I Might be doing that if I can't get some for a lot less than $250 . I have seen you on here quite a lot and if anyone would of seen something done with these panels like a repaint or re-woodgrain ,,you would of seen it . so either I will do like you suggest or buy better ones than I have ,,OR I will have to change panels to get rid of the little slits thats in the panels for the Chrome trim,, thx papa

Cheyenne Super -Man aka Gary Terry Has them restored w/ original GM Woodgrain, they are pricey but well worth it if you want it to be right.

Re: Wood Grain Door Panels Inserts

Don't know what type of truck you guys are building but I have a set of good used ones that I would probably sell for $50 plus shipping. They are, by no means, perfect but are definitely decent driver quality... No dents or gouges - just some scratches mainly around the handles. Here are some pics.

No problem... Thought I would put it out there. I have had these sitting around for a while and thought someone could put them to good use.

Another thing that I noticed with the picture of the wood grain panels that I took and have here on the forum to see,,,is ,,,that even though they look alike in the picture ,,they don't in person !

Either one is had more sun to it to fade it lighter ,,OR.. one is from a different truck ,if in fact panels are different from truck to truck..??? I really don't know ,,but thought I would ask if any that are shown on here are the same shade and evenly matched..

Not saying the ones shown on here are not matched ,, mine are all I have to go one so if anyone has ones that are different ,,I would be interested knowing for learning if nothing else..

Re: Wood Grain Door Panels Inserts

Hey truck lovers,
I enjoyed reading all of the comments. I generally don't stay too long and chat and wind up reading the comments a day or two late. Anyway, what wonderful information. I'm taking the advise of 71 Super and calling Cheyenne Super-Man tomorrow and ordering a pair of the door inserts! I too want a quality set (that's my sickness, not a knock on the things offered up for sale. That is truly appreciated).

Now, here's the next question; how does one upload a picture of his truck?

Re: Wood Grain Door Panels Inserts

Here are some pics of Gary's stuff. I bought a set awhile back and resold them when I found the NOS set pictured above.

Note: If your used set is not all beat up or dented, you can send them to him and he can rebuild them and save a core charge.

Yes but leddzepp bought them... As GOPAPA said, I can imagine the panels wouldn't look right if one was faded more than the other but mine did come out of a clean truck and, other than a few scratches, look good. I'm going with a leather interior so obviously they didn't fit into my plans.

Re: Wood Grain Door Panels Inserts

to my knowledge he is not a member, but he is definately a big hitter in the 67-72 world, as he has done several high, high end trucks, others to look into include jim carter and jerry brown in tenn. all of these have either had a hand in building or have sold the materials to build some of the country's best trucks.

Will these wood grain inserts fit in any 72 door panel or are there special design features that allow the wood grain panels to bolt in?
