1972 blazer...offer price?

I came across a 72 blazer about 3 hours away.....looks relatively rust free.....BAD rattle can paint job from the pic I have seen.....the guy is asking $2,000 for it....which seems like an ok price....but I don't NEED it....but wouldn't mind owning it....if that makes sense.....I could walk away if he doesn't accept my offer, but when you find a blazer, let alone one in decent condition in my neck of the woods, you have to look
(if only to look).....without pics, what would be a good offer on the truck I have just described?
as far as I know, th350, not CST, low rust (relative term...I know), new tires, bad paint......been on the market for about 2 months now.

I'd be very leery of the rattle can job. What's it hiding? Why did it need it?

If you don't NEED it, offer what you're comfortable throwing out there.

They rust-under before they rust-out.You need to see the underside before you can judge the body condition or judge it`s worth.I have a rusted Blazer I paid $400 for and another with less rust(original paint)for $1,100.

I have the same concerns as grendel - what is hiding under the rattle can paint. I'd guess it is there for a reason. Look closely. Until you get personal confirmation that the body is solid metal, not solid bondo, I'd consider it more as a parts truck. Make a low ball offer since you can walk away. As with any car purchase, don't get emotionally attached.

If it has a rattle can paint job, carry a good magnet with you, it won't
hurt his paint, and you will find out exactly what's what, the torrsion
boxes, or rocker boxes, however you call them are the worst thing to
repair on these, next is the windsheild frame / firewall, without pic's I
am going to say $1K, he can always come down, and you can always
go up, or meet halfway if it is worth it, good luck and take pic's 4 us.

Torsion box and rocker box are two sperate/different parts/pieces
Torsion box literally contains the torsion rod inside itself
Rocker box/rocker panel is right there under the door as part of the opening - same as on a truck cab

shelby, what would be your plans for this blazer?
A driver or a restoration?
Rust is of course the biggest concern and blazer hide rust very well.
Cowl area behind the brake booster is another spot to check that hasn't yet been mentioned.

Are rocker boxes repo'd? I am looking for a set, one of my toys is lacking them.

The torsion box and the rear plate are both available from most board vendors. There is a side plate that mounts between the torsion box and the front end of the rear quater that is not available. The B pillar on the blazer is somewhat unique without repo available --you can substitue some truck stuff but will require fabrication. My rule of price is a complete Blazer with some decent options--for parts--up to $1,000. If a solid, original body with minor replacement issues, up to $2,000. And then up from there. Firewall, windshield frame, and rear quarters/floor can be the deciding point on restoration. ANY REPAINT SHOULD BE A RED FLAG FOR BONDO! Not a show stopper by any means but a signal to dig deeper into what was done where and why--you need to triple check everything!!

Hmmm...I've only known them to be called rocker boxes, and there is a perfect distinction between "rocker box" and "rocker panel". To each his own I guess. Maybe that's why some refer to a Jimmy being a "Blazer".

I guess if we called them 'rocker panels' it at least jives with the trucks, so then we have the 'torsion boxes' all to our selves.

no, I am not a new blazer owner.....unfortunately with my work hours, and the 5 hour drive I would have had to make to check it out......I couldn't make it there before someone else bought it......in these instances I just tell myself I probably saved a tank and a half of gas, and a sunday......and leave it at that!
