Water pump painted from the factory?

About to paint my engine in the factory orange but was wondering if the water pump and balancer were also orange. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

Re: Water pump painted from the factory?

The water pump is usually painted but from my memories, the balancer was always black. I could be wrong, I'm sure you'll get a ton of answers soon.

Re: Water pump painted from the factory?

On an L6, where the balancer and the pulley is one-piece, it was Chevy Engine Orange.

Re: Water pump painted from the factory?

I'm pretty sure everything except pulleys are black, as the engines were usually painted whole from the factory.

Re: Water pump painted from the factory?

The balancer and water pump were painted orange as part of the engine assembly. Pulleys and accessory brackets were added later and were black. On Chevy engines with cast aluminum intakes the intakes were not painted but usually had orange overspray.

Re: Water pump painted from the factory?

Water pump and balancer were orange. Engines were painted as an assembly, at the engine plant.

Pulleys were black, and (obviously) were painted separately and installed later at the vehicle assembly plant.

If never seen orang exhaust manifolds. Did some vehicles come that way! Or are they just some they put on during painting? Either way that's a cool pic!

. . . .

ALL Chevy exhaust manifolds were painted orange . . .

The engines were just about fully assembled when painted.

( even the good old 348's water pump and balancer were orange )

. . . .

The orange burns off almost instantly.

Re: Water pump painted from the factory?

My understanding from the Corvette restoration folks (NCRS) is that the exhaust manifolds were part of the engine assembly at the time it was painted, but the intent was not to give them full paint coverage. The goal was more of an overspray around the area where the manifolds bolt to the heads. However, depending on the person doing the painting, the coverage could range from overspray to full coverage. Either way, the paint should have been pretty thin and as stated above, would burn off quickly.
