Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

78 K10 long bed, 4x4

Goal: 2.5" Manifold back dual exhaust kit. Exit out the back, to the sides, and not under the body. I'd just as soon install it myself to save a few bucks.

Looking for just the pipes. I already have mufflers. I can find 2.25" kits for $125 and up. I can't find 2.5" kits for less then $312.99 (Flowmaster 17107). I can find some Pypes but they are higher. I've been reading this forum and others looking for at least a week to find the 2.5 priced reasonably.

I'm thinking my local muffler shop will do 2.5" with my mufflers for $300 to $400. They said low $400 if they supply the mufflers. At that time I didn't think to ask about the H-pipe and the 2.5" spec.

Muffler and H-Pipe vs X-Pipe. There are tons of threads here and all good info but no need to repeat those discussions here so I'll skip those specs.

Thanks

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

After posting I rememberd I found a diagram of a dual exhaust for the K10 on the Walker site that I hadn't priced out yet. This is what I pieced together from it. I can't tell what the diameter of the pipe is but I can confirm that at Advance Auto. Also I guess the long bed is the 131.5" W.B.?? Also wondering if the pipes are flared to connect but I'll ask that at Advance also.

Dual per Walker catalog, can't be sure of the dia.
47523 Front RH $26.00
44607 Front LH $28.00
45645 131" Intermediate, $27.00
44608 RH rear $29.00
44606 LH rear $35.00
$145 + clamps, gaskets, hangers
then at Advance 20% off

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

It's always been a problem with these trucks, the aftermarket has never really stepped up to the plate. I think since there are so many different chassis configurations on these trucks it really throws a monkey wrench in the whole mess for the aftermarket to build a really nice mandrel bent system that just bolts on and works.

Actually though, what kit you did find for $3-$400 doesn't sound bad on price at all. All the exhaust kits on muscle cars I do are easily $500 and on up to $1000 or more.

But when it comes to the trucks, since I want my stuff done a certain way, I either wind up at the muffler shop for a custom install, or I buy straight sticks and several mandrel "J" bends and just build my own. No need to swell the pipes, I butt weld mine together for a much cleaner look. Areas I might need to remove at a later date I just build a 3 bolt exhaust flange and bolt it together.

If you have enough time on your hands, it's really not that bad to do.

I use speedway motors for all the parts I use on.the cars I build you can get a 2 1/2 kit which you have to completely build from strait pipes and bends is close to 200 shipped.

If you want the flowmaster kit, but it online from www.advanceautoparts.com and enter code HUGE50 for $50 off ($262.99 plus tax), you will also get free shipping since its over $75. Good thing too is if you dont like it you can return to any retail store for full refund.

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

Wow, great ideas & quick feedback. Thanks all.

Firebirdjones: The 3 bolt junction idea is pretty cool. Especially if I want to change out mufflers. I'd probably be more comfortable welding those on with my rookie welding skills. I could always cut them off if I did a poor job.

88jimmy: The deal at Advance is unbeleivable. Might make it hard to pass up on the Walker pipes I listed if they are 2.5". It would bring the pipe to $73 + hardware. (the Flowmaster isn't showing up at Advance, put they might order it if I go that way)

Pops: The Thrush kit is 2.25".

Chebyshortbox: I will look at Speedway Motors before I proceed.

As far as kits I looked at
Flowmaster 17107, $312.99, no muffs
Dynomax 19309, $306.29, but cat back. Might not be dual, didn't look close at it
Pypes: Looked at them, don't remember if they had 2.5" but if they did they were expensive

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

Same here man. If you ask me exhaust has gone through the roof in pricing. If you want a nice 2.5" mandrel bent stainless or just coated pipe set with some decent mufflers, prepare to pay over $1000 for all of it. Craigslist is one option if you don't mind used. I got a good used H-pipe, and an axle back for my mustang for $100, all in good shape. Used of course, but good shape. Beats paying the hundreds or thousands for new.

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

Because we sell all our precious metals to china and then buy them back

Seriously though when you check muffler shops and labor rates for custom bending something up and realize you are still looking at $400-$500 in most cases, and then see that you are getting a "crush" bent system with cheap universal hangers, then you see the aftermarket bolt on kits are a pretty good deal.

Mandrel bends, larger piping than the factory ever offered, and most applications on a good system will also include factory style hangers as well. I for one won't hesitate to pay upwards of $6-$700 for a good kit when I know it fits well and performs well. In most cases it's the last system I'll ever have to buy in my lifetime.
The Pypes systems have been some of my favorite setups to use and install considering the money you pay, for stainless steel mandrel bent, stainless mufflers too, "X" cross over, and factory style hangers all for $499 on most muscle cars I've done,,,,hard to beat for the price. Engineered well and fit has always been excellent on F-bodies, X-bodies, and A-bodies that I have installed.

I've paid more for other systems that didn't fit worth a damn and took alot of fab work, not to mention were made of aluminized piping and aluminized mufflers. So I feel I get my money's worth on the Pypes systems. Cheapest stainless setups I've seen out there and they sound great too.

Well you've piqued my interest lol. Haven't heard a whole lot about the Pypes brand though I know they've been around a little while. I need that whole system you just mentioned for my 94 stang, but with cats so I can pass inspection. Where do you buy your from? Just summit racing or somewhere? Are the hangers already welded on?

I get mine through Summit as it's cheaper than buying straight through Pypes.

Hangers are usually welded on where needed on some of the Pypes systems I've done, sometimes I've had to weld them on. Haven't done a mustang system that new (94) from Pypes before though so I'm not sure on that one. Have one for my 69 mustang (with a twist) and my neighbor is doing the kit on his 67. I also run the system on a couple other cars of mine, and just the mufflers on 2 other trucks I have. I Just like the sound and fitment. Hard to beat and it's all stainless. You'll pay alot more for a stainless system from places like Borla, Bassani, Magnaflow etc...and flowmaster kits cost about the same price as a Pypes kit but you get aluminized piping, it's not stainless.

Not sure how long Pypes has been around but they seem to be relatively unknown among alot of people. I had heard about them when some of the pure stock racers started using them so I thought I'd give it a try. They have also been to alot of the races, here's a shot I took of my fathers ride at Norwalk and thought it made a good backround with the Pypes trailer.

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

I think I'm done with the research and I'll probably pull the trigger tomorrow. So the do it myself route with the Walker pipes at Advance Auto is $241.81 - 20% = $193.45 delivered and hangers, clamps, gaskets. I found the Walker diagram and parts list for the 3/4 ton K10, 2.5" exhaust, in the Advance system. Have them search for #6617 for 3/4 ton. The 2.5" pipes all start with the number 4 in the diagram. You can also find the diagram on the Walker site. I hope having that number helps someone since it took me at least a week of serious internet looking to find it.

I went through all the other mfg's and really didn't find anything with 2.5" except for a Flowmaster #17107 for $312.99 and Flowmaster #15936 without hardware for $321

Parts list to order
517300 3" clamps 6 ea $3.99
31400 Manifold Donut Gasket 2 ea $2.99
518513 hangers, 6 ea $3.99
47523 Front RH $25.59
44607 Front LH $28.00
45645 131" Intermediate, $27.19
44608 RH rear $25.59
44606 LH rear $28.00
Prices are with 20%
Advance total at list $241.81 - 20% = $193.45

I've already purchased Dynomax Super Turbo, 20", from Streetsideauto.com for $63.76 ea or $107.62 delivered
I'll probably add an H-pipe for $55, Summit #642025 or an X-pipe for $100, Summit #642125. Those prices are deliverd.

I'll have $300 low end, no H or X pipe, and $400 high end, X pipe. I am looking at about $700 to $800 at a muff shop and they insist I need cats or they won't touch it.

I think I have this nailed down. (Until somebody comes up with another idea!)

Target install date is 2 weekends from now. If it looks decent I'll post pics.

Thanks

Got a question for mine! The exits (lack of a better word) on these headers is 2.5in, I want to run 2.5in exhaust, what do I need to make this work without welding? what collectors, adapters, etc? where can I get them?

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

here you go. You might want to go to the Walker site for a bigger diagram but you have to go through the select boxes
http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog...urerScreen.asp

I know I said I didn't really want to make this and X pipe or muffler thread, but for the sake of completeness heres the x-pipe and mufflers I ordered.

I also ordered the Summit X-pipe #642125, $99.90 delivered
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-642125

And 2 of the 20" Dynomax Super Turbos
Streetsideauto.com $53.81 + $9.95 shipping = $63.76 x 2 + $107.62 discount over $100 of -$19.90 = $107.62
http://www.streetsideauto.com/p/dyno...iversal-17749/

I shopped the hell out of this and also make sure the freight would still make everything the best deal so factor it all in.

Wish me luck, never iinstalled anything like this.

Yeah and what was the deal with the pipe inch diameter... you don't need more than 2.5" until you get up to 400Hp? Something like that. If you go 3" before you need it, it actually hurts you.

Re: Tough time finding 2.5" affordable exhaust kit k10

The image I posted above is the 1/2 ton. I meant to post the 3/4. I beleive the part numbers are the same.

Sorry if I'm making this harder then it is. I'm pretty new to this so that's why I went to Advance and had him run through it. He was pretty sure it was 2-1/2" pipe but he might have been reading it wrong. Now I'm having my doubts seeing the 1/2 ton diagram and the 3/4 ton match. I'm pretty sure stock on the 1/2 ton is 2-1/4". One of the reasons I ordered it through Advance is I can return it if its wrong.

This really should be easier. This is why I looked for a week for a 2-1/2 kit.

If what I posted isn't 2-1/2 I'll let eveyone know.

Also I'm not sure what you are referring to is 3" unless I have a type I'm not seeing.
