ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

because im assuming that like myself your just taking a liability coverage on your truck so if it gets stolen we will lose the whole ball of wax.? ive just had my truck for a few days and its not a daily driver so all im doing right now is chaining down the hood on a disconected battery. im wondering if i should get a club. just wondering what you all do to make sure your investment stays home.

Re: ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

Not much will stop them if they want it......"The Club" is a joke...they just cut the steering wheel is 5 seconds and pull it off.

I had one stolen 20 feet from my bedroom window with a utility trailer hooked to it and didnt hear a thing and they had to back it out the driveway

Hood lock
hidden battery shut off
Hidden coil cut off

These will only slow them down but might deter a novice

Best Theft protection I have had - called her PDQ (Psycho Dog Queen!) passed away in 2000. God I miss her.

She once tree'd a punk that thought he'd help himself to some of my stuff. She lept off our back deck (2nd floor!) to go after him. I made him stay in the tree till the cops arrived.

Get a dog - they work!

Re: ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

i added an alarm with a back up battery i really hate alarms but ive had enough of my stuff stolen out of my previous cars and windows broken my alarm is extra sensitive , fireworks make it warn people (couple of beeps)
and this is on a blazer with the top off im going to get a perimeter sensor next so i can turn down the sensitivity . the perimeter sensor works like a virtual bubble around the car .

Re: ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

move to a better neighbor hood. I have left my keys in the truck and car with the windows down and have a couple of the neighbor hood kids knock on the door to let me know. Been in the house 11 years and nothing has been taken in the area. Guess I'm lucky.

Re: ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

it probably helps me that I live up here in North Dakota, and in this city, thievery isn't anywhere near the most popular crime. I have had one case of stolen property, though. I used to not lock my old S-10 Blazer, and somebody one night stole about a grand's worth of stereo stuff and a radar detector out of there. I got the subs and the two amps back, but not my 6x9's or my radar detector. Needless to say, I was really ...well...let's just say angry. I was quite ready to slaughter somebody, but I never did actually learn who stole my stuff. Now I lock my truck, with my 97, since I have my guns, my Sirius, my nice CD player, my subs and amp, and a few other valuable things in there. As for my 69, I leave my keys in there any everything, I don't even get complaints from my neighbors about my loudass truck, and I know all of them, so I figure my neighborhood's safe.

yup leave the keys in it then it's concidered unautherized use and not theft i think locks only stop honest people and thives will do whatever it takes to get what they want

Re: ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

I always change my gas tank switch to the no tank position. If they do get it they won't go far before it runs out of gas. If they hook up a tow truck to it your out of luck. As mentioned above, parking another vehicle behind it is a good idea too.

Sleep in it. Other than that, all you can do is slow a thief down.

Try this:

My truck is in the garage, but I still did it. It only cost like $5, can't hurt!!

Re: ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

ALARM!!!! haha, its worth the money. mine dosent run, so i really have no worries with it sitting there, besides, thses trucks have no steering lock, all it takes it go get underneath the truck and pull down the shift linkage in the tranny and push er away. unless ya set the parking brake. but /w/ a smil jim it takes me 10 secnds to pop the lock. so eaither way its all over. they r gonna get it. all i can think of is putting a quick disconnect on the igniton switch inside the cab. or like others said..... yanking the negitive. a club is really just an eye catcher and makes it look like something worth seeling. these stock steering wheels are nothing to cut. saftey sizzors will do the job

invest in an alarm.

well for trucks that don't run or aren't being used often the ideal thing is to put them on jackstands with no wheels

Re: ungaraged trucks - what do you do to detour theft..............?

Park my wife's car behind my truck, security lights, and other precautions I don't want to post in a public forum.

Right around Christmas, someone tried to get my truck. My wife heard a car idling outside and looked out the window. Saw the lights of the car so she grabbed her glasses and looked again. Saw a guy trying to jimmy open the door on my truck. She whipped the window open and started yelling at the guy. I jumped out of bed, and yelled at him too. As soon as he heard me, he started running and jumped into the waiting car. Security measures have since been added to the cars and the whole house.

If a thief really wants your truck, there is nothing you can do except: no wheels, park something else behind it, or what ever. My brother-in-law is gun poor, and his truck still got stolen.
