Question 3/4 ton brake drum confusion!

I'm very confused. I ordered new rear brake drums from the Autozone.com website for my truck and they just arrived. Problem is, they don't look like the right ones to me. ?

I have a 1971 C20 with what I believe is an Eaton rear. (it has the large salad bowl center and the bolts are on the front side)

On the website, they have 2 possibilities, one with a Dana rear and one without. I clicked the one without and ordered them. (see pics below) The ones shown are 11 5/16" X 2 3/4"

I haven't had my drums off for a few years (truck is off the road) but when I did have them off last, I had to remove the center hub and pull the axle to get the drums off. The ones below look like that wouldn't need to be done.

Questions are;

1) Do I have an Eaton rear as I described above?
2) Are the drums in the pics correct? If not, what are they correct for?

Thanks in advance for any help...

They are correct! You have to remove the hub from the drum. If I remember correctly the wheel studs are what hold them in place.

Thanks alot! I'm glad to hear I can use them. I'll have to get in there and see how to seperate them.

Re: 3/4 ton brake drum confusion!

Take out the axle. then use a special hub socket. either has 4 or six prongs that will go into the spindle nut. take spindle nut off the a washer, then another spindle nut. The whole heavey SOB should slide of the spindle now..

The just get a brass drift and a heavy hammer and pound out the lugs. You can reuse them if you don't mess them up.
Then reverse process and all should be A OK....

Re: 3/4 ton brake drum confusion!

Yeah the wheel studs "pound" out very easily -- but be sure to take it in and have a shop with a press and PRESS on the new assembly together.

Last fall I POUNDED my studs into the drum and hub and let me emphasis the pounding part. The last 1/4" of the studs to get down tight are a bugger. Just take it in for the whole disassembly/reassembly. I wouldn't do it myself again without a press.

Re: 3/4 ton brake drum confusion!

Just a follow up...

Everything went real smooth and just as you guys told me. It was also the perfect time to justify buying a new tool for the garage.... A 12 ton shop press. (those lugs didn't give it any trouble)
