Please help me fix my factory 4 season air conditioning

I searched for this, but didn't find anything. Anyways, my truck has the factory 4 season A/C. It doesn't work... the previous owner somehow 'rigged' the heater controls so that warm air always blows out the defroster... no matter what you set the levers at.

The hub of the compressor seems to be stuck. The fan belt is gone. There is a hardline missing that goes between the receiver/dryer and the condensor.

Where do I begin with this? I have NEVER worked on A/C before, but I want to learn how to fix this.

Hopefully someone can help. If there is already a thread on this, and somebody can please post the link, that would be very helpful.

My suggestion would be to buy the Service Manual for your truck as it has a great section on AC's.

I have it in hand actually... its just overwhelming. I'm not sure where to begin or how to troubleshoot the system... also what all is involved with changing to r-134?

It really isn't that hard but it can be expensive. Your first problem is the compressor and if it has to be replaced you should go with one that is set up for 134A If you do this then you have to change all your lines because the newer fittings will be differant. If you just have your compressor repaired You can buy a conversion kit to change to the 134A You need a new dryer for 134A You will also need someone to vac check the system and install the 134A as far as the controls it is just time to check the cables behind the dash control. There is also a door in the diversion box that goes bad and will probably have to buy a new box. I rebuilt my entire system and bought a new compressor and it cost almost $1000 so you might look at an after market kit.
