my total $ in my truck........it scares me

thought this was interesting....its a rainy day so i went thru all my truck reciepts and calculated what my total was in my truck....it was about 500 more than i expected..kinda scary lol......

ive owned my truck 6 months, and have $2718 in it, (thats including the truck which was $1500)

put what you bought your project for (if you dont mind sharing, and a good guess or a rough calculation of how much ya got in it..and if ya want, a pic of 2 lol)

My total is right at 20k and that is doing all the labor here in my shop...including the price of the truck..

Talking Re: my total $ in my truck........it scares me

I paid $14,000 for the truck in really great condition. Since then I have prob. another $8,000 in it. GV/OD and a TH400 tranny was a lot of that. It was appraised at $20,000 but there is no 4wd truck you can buy new that is as heavy duty as mine for the money. Oh yeah, if mine breaks I can fix it myself.

You don't really want to know....

I will say that the K10 is insured for 20K and the c10 is insured for I think 16K...and I feel that they're both underinsured!

Re: my total $ in my truck........it scares me

I paid 6800 for the three parts trucks 4000 for the one off Ebay that was junk and all I kept was the bed and the Dana 44 front. i won't say what I have in it but is insured for a declared value of $40,000 The insurance company has an apprisal of $45,000. Every thing on this truck is either new or I rebuilt it. I enjoyed building this truck but would never build another as they are never worth what you put in them in time and money. This truck will be given to my daughter when I can no longer drive it.

Roughly 3500, inlcuding the truck. Which my neighbor gave me a huge deal on.

Basically 3k into building it, over a 2 year period. Got it going just in time for half of senior year, and it made a grand impression on the parking lot... Several times.

Re: my total $ in my truck........it scares me

$1,000.00 for the truck
and so far about another $2,000.00 in new parts.

$3,000.00 and have not put a dent into all that needs to be done.

I don't keep track or reciepts.I don't want the QOV figuring out how much though I will say I have around $5,000.00 in it and the mechanicals are pretty close to where I need them.I figure a few more upgrades and then the scary part.Pint and body.

Re: my total $ in my truck........it scares me

I've kept a spread sheet of my truck build so that I have the part numbers and other info of everything that went into it. Right now with the paint job (haven't paid for all of the paint job yet) I'm right around $22k. I think the projected "finished" cost is almost $26k.

Oh, I bought it for $1600 (I think...it was 2 years ago)

I originally paid $2,000$ for mine , but after I went through it and re-did everything it's around $22,000 now. That's with me doing all the labor. Oh yeah, and I'm still not through.

Re: my total $ in my truck........it scares me

Built my race truck (avatar) for nothing... zip... nada... no dineros... to running condition.
A donated rolling chassis, cab from someone else, box sides from another friend, seats found somewhere, left over paint, etc...... even some old spark plugs were cleaned and re-used. I've since put money into perfomance enhancers but, accomplished something from nothing (I like challenges).

Whenever i'm in my garage I spot the pile of reciepts I keep on the shelf, and think to myself "I must sit down and add that lot up"......and then I come to my senses

It's sad when I think about the fact I spent more on my short block engine build, then some people do on their whole car... so far its sitting at about $30,000 CDN. still needs a lot more though..

Re: my total $ in my truck........it scares me

I've been pretty quiet on this forum but have learned a lot from reading, reading and reading some more - so for that I thank you all. HOWEVER, it sure would have been nice to have read this post a year ago before I even got into this project!!

I took a chance on a truck out of Arkansas... lets just say the only truth to it (thankfully) was that it truly was rust free - my paint guy is still amazed, there was literally no rust anywhere!!

Now for the rest of it.... 3k to rebuild the supposed 'fresh' 402, convert 3 on tree to 700R4, power steering, power disc brakes, new glass, wiring, wheels/tires (after drop spindles pushed them out too far), oh yeah... all the suspension work, new paint (still in progress), gas tank, gauges, starter, alternator, water pump, mirrors, heater controls etc etc etc

I'm honestly afraid to add it all up but got to be well over 20K (incl. truck) and its still in 100 pieces!

I joke that I now have a 40 year old truck all for the price of a brand new one. BUT no new truck could ever give me the joy of my '69 (btw we're the same age) even if its still in pieces.

I really hope you did not do that in front of your wife! That will set a bad precedent. Not that I would know anything about that, but thought that it might a bit of useful information. Not being the sharpest marble in the bag, I told my wife " HEY! its cheaper than a girlfriend"
