My 67 GMC is being starved of gas, bought a new fuel pump and its still dies out, i let it sit for a while then it runs again then dies again. It has the straight 6 it ran good for 2 weeks? Keep in mind its been sitting for 2 years. Help!!!

I'd replace the fuel filter and check the needle and seat in the carb. 2 years of sitting can gum it up.

trash in tank?,fuel line clean? Had a 6.2 diesel at work the other day was giving fuel problems, back blew the fuel line and it ran fine, Now I guess Im gonna pull and drain the tank

I have done everything, new carb kit new needle, new filter? I checked all the lines their clean the one coming out of the gas tank was a little dirty, but gas is getting out. I have taken the gas tank out and going to clean it? Its weird.

take the fuel pick up uot of the tank and check the strainer for debris, also check under the cab there's a rubber hose from the tank to the frame rail at the back of the cab

Are you sure it is being starved? Have you checked the fuel flow at the line going into the carb?

A strange problem that I encountered where a car would run for a while then die, you'd wait and it start again and then it'd die was where the muffler was blocked up due to rust, once backpressure built up the engine would die. The telltale there was that after it died you'd hear a hiss from the exhaust as pressure bled off.

Get a clear plastic inline fuel filter....they make it very easy to see if you are getting gas to the carb or not. Especcialy if you have the in-carb fuel filter. I would suggest removing it completley, then cutting the pump-carb fuel line and installing the inline filter. I use a Fram G3 filter, which costs about $3.

When i took the pick up line out of the tank it didnt have the strainer, do u guys think its picking up junk from the tank?
What moves the fuel pump, can anything go wrong in the motor?

there is a little piece that sits on the cam so unless it broken or the lobe went flat it should still be working

So it works off of the cam, and a cam last a while? So it couldnt be the cam. I am cleaning out the gas tank today, and installing an inline clear filter for the carb. Thnks u guys for all the great tips.

Also may want to check your fuel line routing. I was having problems losing fuel pressure because it was too close to a head and was boiling the fuel in the line.

also check your gas cap if it is not venting it will do the same thing try running with out the cap to test

Fill up a gas can and go get some fuel line hose. Get enough to run from the can to the fuel pump and then see if runs ok or not with it pumping gas from the gas can. This may help you track down if its something from the fuel tank to the pump. Fuel line is pretty cheap so it shouldnt cost more than 5 bucks to do this. Good Luck

What would u guys recommend for cleaning out the gas tank?
Something i could possible get at my local parts store. Or where ever?
