Speaker Selection?
My 4x10 speaker in the dash has seen better days and I was wondering what's the best inexpensive speaker to replace it? I don't have any amps, boxes, etc. I just want something that sounds good without breakig the wallet.

Chevy duty sells a center speaker set that is composed of two smaller speakers. That way you have stereo up front instead of mono. That would be the low-cost route!

Where can you get a bracket that converts that !*#$ 4X10 to two 3.5 for the center dash? Or is there a bracket to convert it to any other size? I want DUAL stereo! Hehe...

Tyler, the later trucks used 3.5" speakers mounted at each end of teh dash, as opposed to the center mounted 4x10. every truck i've ever seen with the dash pad out has holes where the 3.5"s would fit, you just need to get the brackets to make them work.

I don't have provisions for the corner speakers. I have some 3 way in the cab rear corners and the middle needs replaced.
Tracy- How much those run from Kicker?

I personally use Inifinity speakers. I like them.
However I would be willing to try Kicker speakers out, provided I could find them at a good price. :p Jeff

And a bunch of blown Comp VR's...how about a real return rate %...I have the numbers, and it's allot less that most, and won't mention names...Rockford does make some good entry level stuff, mid and top level. Most top level stuff you will have to get at dealers. But the entry stuff can be bought at many outlets. 79BIG10 email me tfocht@kicker.com Tracy |

I have one comp VR 12" sub in my 79. Every single person whos goten into my truck asks how I get a 12" to hit that hard. It has never complained a single bit. My component set of 6.5/1" w/crossovers goes as high as my ears could possably take, without problems. And the one 5 channel amp I use to run them all, also from kicker, has performed flawlessly! I LOVE KICKER!!!!!
Ive tried many brands. I blew my bostin acustics one day after my old amp was installed. The pioneer's didnt last much longer. My kenwoods went the distance though Had a JL audio 12", good sub but not enough kick to it. I wanted to go with MB Quarts comonent set, but was convinced to try kicker. Now I wont look back

I have a set of those 3.5" speaker brackets for the corners of the dash (in fact have the stock speakers left too.) I've got a deal for you, PM me if interested.

Most name brands will not give you problems if you follow their guidlines (ie what amp, how/where to install, etc.).
Kicker is good, no doubt about that. Kenwood is also good, and usually costs a little less then kicker and can be found instock at retail stores near you) Pioneer is OK, but I have not been too impressed with any subs I bought from them or any subs that friends have. I had a set of Fosgates that would blow the doors off. They were 1,000 watt (maybe 1200) competition 12's (huge chromed magnet on the back, with a rubber ring). I paid a little over $200 a speaker, they were stolen before they were ever installed I have an idea who did it, but could never prove it. What goes around gets you put in the ground! MTX is ok, but never really happy with their products. I used to have some Boston Acoustics, man did they sounds great, super clean for some mids. I was really impressed, but sold them for twice what I bought them for, so you know Never really played with any non factory installed infinity systems, so I have no comments on that. I dont know about JVC subs, but their decks can take one hell of a beating. Seems to me if you go with Kicker or Kenwood for any speakers you should be happy. I also have some Kenwood 4-way 6x9's that sound damn good, but one is blown I think. I heard it making some noises this morning. Considering they have been in my truck for years, getting kicked, spilled stuff on them, and having them pumping to the max, I think I got my $100 worth out of them Good luck with your find Brandon. Stay with a name brand and you should be alright.

There is really too many factors to compare speakers the way people do. There is the speaker itself, the sterio, the amp, the box, the placement of the box and so forth. To say that one speaker is louder or hits harder then another can be very inaccurate. Always follow the manufacturers guidelines. They test this stuff and they know what they are talking about. High grade sterio equipment is no joke and the manufacturers have alot of time in design and testing, they know what they are talking about when they give you their recomendations. Im sure Tracy could back me up with this.
