5.3/4L60E swap questions?
I have a parts truck that I pulled the 5.3 and the 4L60E from yesterday. Before I take the truck back I was wanting know if there was anything else I need to keep off of the 2001 Silverado. I have the engine, trans, manifolds computer and all off the wiring. I am going to take out the accelerator cable and the trans cable Friday.
Has anyone used the OEM radiator and a/c condensor from the 5.3? Goodies from ECE should be here Tuesday! 4/6 drop, hidden hitch, sway bar kit, and LS/5.3 motor mounts. Happy Thanksgiving! |

Re: 5.3/4L60E swap questions?
If you are going to make it emmissions legal you will need the evap canister.
Also get the fuel line ends so you can retro fit them to your lines. Take the drive shaft...you need the yoke. Take the P/S lines..you need the pump fittings. Do your self a BIG favor. throw away the factory harness and buy one from painless. Trust me on this! Take a look at my thread. I just finished a 5.7L 4L60 in a 67. You will be happy you went this way if you do it smartly Last edited by Misstur_big; 11-23-2006 at 07:13 PM. Reason: add |

Re: 5.3/4L60E swap questions?
P.S. You wont be able to use manifolds unless you set the engine way back. If you are going to use small block towers and LS1 mounts than you will have to use headers

Re: 5.3/4L60E swap questions?
Thanks for the input. I forgot about the yoke on the drive shaft. I'll put that in the garage also. I cut the exhaust before the cats so I have the O2's. I thought I read that someone was using F-body manifolds? They are cheaper than headers and usually seal better. I also have about 24" of the fuel lines from the engine towards the tank. I am not worried about emission but I will grab the vapor can/box as well. I have one of the PS lines the other was missing? I have talked to Painless and Speartech for new harnesses. I like that Painless is a very well known company but Speartech is 2 1/2 hours from me? Decisions, decisions?

Re: 5.3/4L60E swap questions?
I had wait4meperformance.com do my harnesee and reprogram. They were the cheapest place I could find and they did a good job.

Re: 5.3/4L60E swap questions?
Speartech is a great co. I used theirs on my project, took 10 minutes to hook up & fired right up with no problems. I had John rework my computer also. they also made my harness custom just like I wanted layed out with the computer in the cab. I suggest you keep the fuel pump (in tank) from the truck,I ended up using a factory Trailblazer pump, but your PU pump might be usable.

A lot of things have changed since we did my 82 Blazer LS1 conversion 4 years ago. I use Fuel Injection Specialties to mod my OEM harness and computer. They did excellent work, and were a great help over the phone when info was needed. They also have a chassis dyno to do any tuning you might need after the install.

Re: 5.3/4L60E swap questions?
Kid- Thanks for the input. The original fuel pump was sold out of the truck before I got it.
balzerboy72- A friend told me to use Wait4meperformance also. He used them for a reflash on his Silverado. N2TRUX- I am considering an external pump. Did you use an external pump, if so what brand? Thanks. The 5.3 & 4L60E are sitting in the chassis waiting for the ECE engine mounts. Check out the pics. Do you think it was to early to try to put the grill in! |

You might want to check into using the rear end and disk set up as well if it is a half ton!

1969K10stepside- Thanks for the welcome. This site is excellent. Your sig show parts? Do you have a good SWB bed? (at least good floor and braces)
Rokcrln- The rear end was already sold and the truck is in my driveway on stands. The neighbors love it! I am considering disc brakes for the stock rear end. |

Re: 5.3/4L60E swap questions?
I'm kinda late here, but I modified my passenger side frame mount, and used LS1 exhaust manifolds(as I had the LS1 motor). I also used Speartech. I used an external pump with a 72 return style sending unit for the return line. Can't remember the name of the pump. It needs to put out 60psi. I extended the return line to the bottom of the tank to help prevent fumes. I used the camaro rad and dual fans in my truck, my dads 67 is going to use the stock 67 rad as the 5.3 I'm putting in his truck has a fan on front.
Enjoy
