quick question for guys with short fleet trucks - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

there is a couple short fleet trailers here in town that a buddy and i have spotted, i find that they look deceiving when they arent on trucks and i want to make sure that indeed they are shortboxes, so could someone throw a tape on the front bulkhead of the truck and give me a rough length to the tailgate, i think its something like 76 inches or something but if youve got a sec that would be awesome, thanks in advance

I think the longbed fleets have three stake pocket holes on each side. Shortbed fleets only have two on each side. Shorts have no stake pocket in the middle of the bed rail. That would be a faster way to tell than getting the tape measure out.

This is the easiest way to tell the diff w/o a tape-measure.

I believe they are 6 foot 5 inches long. Are you really having trouble telling the difference between a short and longbed? I won't be at the shop working on my truck for a week or 2 so I won't be able to give you any measurement until then.

LWB beds are right at 8ft or 96inches. Don't have a shortbed to measure but sure would be interested in buying a trailer(ha ha) if it were a SWB. Put me first in line if you come up with an extra for sale.

I can usually tell at a glance, If the front part of the bed is longer the part in front of the wheel, than the rear part its a longbed, if the front and the back are of equal lengths its a swb , and also as mentioned lwb has 6 stake holes and swb has 4 stake holes, but if you can get that close to it you can tell the difference without any problem.

The inside is 6 1/2 feet from front wall to tailgate on a swb, and 8 foot on a lwb. Measuring outside would probably add another 3 or 3 inches.

i can tell but you get at a funny angle and sometimes its deceiving...that stake pocket idea will work fine
