5.3 In My '72 Question

This question is for everyone that has installed the later 99-up 5.3 into their trucks. I want to know everything it is to know on the installation to install the 5.3 into my truck. What things I need, parts I have to buy and where do I get the parts. When I build my truck I want to drive and enjoy it. I want it to get good gas mileage, I don't care for the add-ons that make it fast. Stock horsepower is fine with me, cause they got to be more powerful than the 175 hp rated on the old 350's. And of course get better gas mileage.

Re: 5.3 In My '72 Question

You can look in the LS swap section under Engine & Drivetrain and find a wealth of information. I read almost every build thread I found in there before I started mine. I could make you a list of the things I had to get for mine, but I'm sure I would leave something out, plus I'm sure I still need some things I haven't thought of yet. This is a good thread, I read it a dozen times. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=377348 Good luck with your swap!!

Re: 5.3 In My '72 Question

The earlier ones had an older version of the Dorman intake manifold that would leak at the flange to the block after a few years. I had a 99 5.3 with this issue and upgraded to the newer one. I'm not sure when they switched, maybe around 02. The truck would not idle in cold temperatures until I swapped manifolds. It was $250 or so for a new one. Great engine other than that even for the first year and would love to have one in an old truck.
