Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

Mine has no rattles or squeeks, only exhaust noise. I used foam on the back of a lot of trim to keep it from rattling and I removed the belts, the rollups on those always rattled on mine. Apart from that I do have wind noise from the vent windows.

Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

My truck is about as quiet as a group of skeletons playing rugby on a tin roof...

That said its an older model and I have absolutely no sound proofing at all. Dynamat or fat mat is great to bring down the rattles as does tightening down trim and liberally applying grease to suspension

Not too many rattles at high way speed. Just wind noise from the door and vent seals. I need to replace them but....

I've seen some stuff that you can put under the floor carpet to help quiet things down.

Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

You can use the vent windows out of the 88-91 suburban to quiten down the leaks there, there are quite exspensive now though.
I used some cheap role roofing from homedepot in my crew. I used it on the doors, floor, roof and rear cab panel and my truck is very quite.

Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

Very quiet in town - all stock 83 C20. On the the highway, wind noise around the roll up window, even though I replaced all window run channels and felts and door seals. I suspect aftermarket parts are the culprit.

Not sure where you heard that, I have 89' Burb vents in my truck and they still have a bit of whistle.

K
You guys built some of them better than others. My '86 C20 Burb still has the original dual exhaust and is quiet as can be going down the road. No wind noise at all unless it's a REALLY windy day. Must not have been built on a Friday or Monday, eh?

My lifted K20 Burb really doesn't have wind noise, but does have a lot of tire noise.

My lifted K30 is really pretty quiet, just some tire noise and some rattles normal for a truck pushing 35 years old.

My little '84 C10 is one noisy SOB. The left vent window has been really noisy for years, just the other day I crammed some sticky-back weatherstripping into it and it made a big difference. But I still hear the exhaust and a ton of road noise.

I haven't driven my K5 in so long that I don't remember how noisy it might be.

Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

Insanely loud. No sound proofing, no window weather stripping and a Flowmaster that exits about a foot behind the cab under the bed. But it's fun to drive and the stereo is crappy anyhow.

Imagine a drum...that is your can and everything is pounding on it and making noise. That's how our trucks are

With underlayment and 1/4" insulation below the rubber matting, FRANKENTRUCK stays pretty quiet, unless I've got the Kenwood powered!

Duals straight out the back helps reduce exhaust noise, too.
Good luck,
Todd.

Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

Other than dual glasspacks, my stock truck is whisper quiet. I had an irritating whine for awhile. Once I installed a new fan clutch and kicked my old lady to the curb, the truck got quiet - REAL quiet.

Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

My 1991 V3500 crew cab dually is super quiet. Even at 70 mph with a th400 and 4.10 gears. I can have a regular conversation with someone sitting on the other side of the cab with the radio on.

Lotīs of wind noise from the vent windows at highway speed, other than that not so bad.

my 76 is missing felt around the windows and the door rubber isn't great either but nothing more then alot of wind noise and I do have a full padded interior. on my old 86 Gmc it had just factory carpet the no headliner option. before the exhaust was done you could hear a mouse fart doing 80

Re: how quiet is your truck inside?

Not bad after sealing the vent windows, Even though you still have to pull over to call someone. A good sound system helps a lot to mask the noise. If it were to have all the padding weather stripping and padded headliner it would be rather quiet.

That's a good baseline "can you make a phone call?"

My stock '87 swb was acceptable. My '71 is like a torture chamber though.
