I'm new with some questions please...
Just a little about me, I'm new to these trucks, I'm going to be picking mine up tomorrow, it needs a little work. Its a 67 Step Side, with no rust, runs ok, and is in great shape. Getting what I think is a pretty good deal at 1400. I'll be getting two engines with it, and the chrome strips for the bed. I will have pics when I pick it up tomorrow. I have a 95 Chevy Camaro and now this truck so guys help me out here....
1. This truck has an inline 6 in it I think, witha 4 speed on the column. I want to go to a more powerful bigger engine. What is a common size for these trucks? I was thinking a 454? 2. HAs anyone chopped the top? I'm thinking of doing this...But I dont know if I want to go that far... 3. Interior...I wanna update my interior as it will need seats... What kinds fit well? 4. Airbag suspension...anyone done this? WHat all needs to be changed? 5. Front end...anyone go to a rack and pinion? What is common to use? 6. Rearend...how strong are they? What is common to use if they are replaced? Thanks guys and sorry about all the questions... I plan on making this a show truck with a lil weekend driving... |

Welcome to the board from W.V. There is few venders on this board that carry what you would need to do what you have mentioned and people with the experiance to give you advice. Me I'm still new but have found this board to be the greats tool for your imagination and advice on how it can be done.

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Are you sure it's not a 3 speed on the column?
Check out the FAQ page, lot of good info there, especially for someone new to these trucks.

I'm from Kentucky. I really think the truck would look great chopped. That will come I'll have pics tomorrow. I wanna know if you guys think I got a deal on it too. So Hi to all you guys! A little about me:
I'm from southeast KY, 22, college working student but sitting out a couple of semesters. I have quite a bit of experience from my car. It was originally a 3.4 liter automatic, which I converted to an LT1 with a 6 speed, then cammed it and lots of other engine work. Member of http://www.camaroz28.com same name on their forum. So where can I go to to get some answers? If I can help you guys with anything let me know! |

1. Majority have 350's.
2. Has been done, not by me. 3. Pretty much any full size GM truck/suburban seats will fit with a little work. 4. Has been done, check suspension page, it's pretty much all they talk about. 5. I don't think there is much advantage to it. Stock ps works pretty well. 6. Don't know, haven't heard of many issues. Hope this helps a bit.

the way id go if i were is a big block. sounds like your familiar with the 454 already. its been done by many. many people have stuck their truck on bags. from what i hear its not as bad as it sounds. just think out the whole system before you start. lots of different seats will fit. i like the newer tahoe seats. they look clean in these trucks....theres a lot of diffferent stuff you can do to the interior. check out rod doors. just some ideas

I also am questioned what engine do I want for my project. I have been reading up on the so called 87 octane 400 HP+ engines. Hot Rod magizine would not reply to my questions on thier engine, I have not contacted Chevy High Perfomance yet. I have found a lot of information on engine plans but little info on the long term of these engines. I can tell you 30 years ago I had a 292 inline six bored out to the max, full race cam, two fours in the trunk, three dueces I ran most of the time, split headers, truck 3 speed trany. I only used 3 rd and reverse for normal driving. In the early 70's, this was fast in a 50 Chevy Sedan. I do not think it woul be up to par with the technoligy of modern engines, but it sure is fun to open your hood, show a six then put down a 350. This car was driven dailey, gas was cheap, drive on the higway weekly, I10 Houston to Beaumont, engine was like new when I sold the car. Only my son keeps me from building another six.
