Not positive what 67's had/location for the vin plates but that looks like some one changed the vin tag. The rivets don't look right. Special rivets were used for the vin so that it makes it difficult to swap tags. The special rivets are hard to find and not suppose to available to the public. I would guess that if your truck is ever inspected by a DMV guy you might have some trouble.

Nope. 70-72 cabs used a single vin plate, 67-69 cabs have 2 plates. Your's appears to be a 70-72 vin plate painted over with one of the 67-69 plates screwed on. In NH, this would be a non-issue , but in PA your DMV laws may differ.

Here is an example of correct (albeit GMC) 67-69 VIN tags.

Notice the flour shaped edges of the rivits, that is what they were refering to on special rivits.
I would avoid having anyone important looking at your VIN, and maybe call the DMV from a pay phone asking for solutions...and I wouldn't give my name either untioll they had some good answers. I know PA is a PITA on this kind of stuff.

That's strange. I own two 67's one 1/2 ton and one a 3/4 ton and both have only one plate which are the originals. The vin #'s even match with the options sticker on the glove box door and the 3/4 ton still has the service schedule book with that metal tag on the back cover of the book also with matching numbers. It doesn't appear that anything was removed from those spots.

??????????

I would definately say that your's looks fishy though 67ChevyC10Stepside.

I grew up in PA. I would love to hear if that one makes it through inspections

I would definately say that somebody was trying to pull a fast one on that one then. It might be a good idea to try to find a half ton cab for sale. You can usually find one on this board for a reasonable price teeitup (Randy) out of KS usually has some if you don't mind the trip.

You might even be able to find a decent one in a junkyard close by. Maybe you could even cut a pillar off of another 67 c-10 and weld it onto yours if you are willing to go that far. I don't know if that would work though.
