Tire carrier

Whats the most difficult part about mounting the swing away tire carrier on the Blazer? Is it getting the mount on the tail gate? I have the whole kit....still boxed up....before I started I was just curious how much a PITA this was going to be? Thanks!

Re: Tire carrier

I'd guess it is going to be getting the top bracket up inside the bed walls. I believe you have to remove the whole tail light assembly and cram you hand up in there while holding on to that long bent rod. I never got around to installing the swing away on my '69 and my '72 has one.

Re: Tire carrier

I had to grind powder coating off inside upper bracket due to tight fit.

Re: Tire carrier

Let us know cause I have been looking for one for a couple of years. Mine has flown away sometime in Blazer's previous life. Have most of the hardware just nothing to mount to it.

Re: Tire carrier

Hello Patch,
Do you have a phone number, e-mail address or web-page for this guy that has some of these things. I would really like to get one.
Thanks,
Darrell

Wow, that is great. Looks like it is brand new.

Let us know how it looks when it is installed. Maybe even take pictures of the install process!

Re: Tire carrier

Is this the style that got put on our rigs from the dealership, or is this a newer design? Anyone know? Thanks!

Re: Tire carrier

Okay.....I called the guy in Boston today...he looked in the rest of his inventory...but could not find any...he has one left for a willy's style jeep.....if you want to call him....he's at (617) 782-4018 Brookline Machine Co. Inc. out of Boston, MA. He does carry and can get all kinds of stuff for the Dana axles....???? It does not say what size max....but I figure it should carry my "downsized" 33 inch spare no problem.....uhh...I hope!

wouldn't the answer to this question be, drilling holes in some perfectly good sheetmetal.....
