Who in the HECK designed this darn thing??
I am taking out my motor, i am trying to get the ramshorn off. Who in there right mind would have put two threaded bolts from the bottom up?? This makes no sense to me. When i put this back together is there a better set up for the connection between the rams horn and the exhaust pipe?

Ya one is solid and connected to the rams horn, the other two are long bolts that thread up thru the rams horn and then have a nut. Seems like over kill to me. It wouldn't be so bad if the rams horn wasn't threaded. Can a guy drill out the threads?

Re: Who in the HECK designed this darn thing??
you can drill them and and fix it with an oversized helicoil.

Re: Who in the HECK designed this darn thing??
What about drilling them and leaving them smooth? So the bolt will just slide up and then use a nut and lock washer? It took forever to crawl under there and un-thread them once i had the nut off.

I think that'll work on most of the holes, however I believe there's one or two where the manifold twists into the way, not leaving enough room on the top of the flange.

Sounds like a good idea. I do not see why it would it would not work.

Re: Who in the HECK designed this darn thing??
Originally the exhaust manifolds had three studs threaded into them, and the exhaust pipes connected up to them with the flange, and three nuts from the bottom. This enables you to take the exhaust pipes off of the manifolds without having to hold a nut and a bolt. I always use extra long brass nuts available at all auto parts stores from the bottom so they will come off easily. If someone put bolts through the manifolds, it is because the threads are no good. I would install Helicoils or Thread Inserts and go back with the original type studs and nuts.
