Question Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

I'm thinking of going red with my 71 C20. (originally orange)

I've been searching for a really nice bright red but so far, not much luck. I don't care what kind of car it's from, as long as it's stunning, bright, and red! (no metallics)

A few days ago, I saw a BMW and an Audi that had nice red paint jobs. I don't know what year or model they were so can't seem to find pics online for those.

Any suggestions?

The Red paint on my '39 Ford is pretty bright. It is Matrix System Automotive Finishes, Cherry Red MPB-73308 56. If you want the mix info let me know.

I need to finish buffing it out... To many projects, not enough time...

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

go to autobody paint supplier and look thru the thousands of paint chips find one you think you might like and buy a pint of the cheapest type they got and paint something with it

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

Porche "Guards Red" has always been popular
GM had a color called "Torch Red" for quite some time
My 07 HHR is what they now call "Victory Red"

All three of these are fairly neutral reds. The guards red probably the middle of the three, w/ torch red a bit more toward orange and victory red slighly toward blue.

You can't miss with Ferarri Red. But if you want to stay with a GM color, in 1993 Chev. had a truck color I think it was called Victory Red.

Here's some pictures of mine. It's a factory color, "victory red" is the name I believe.

I 2nd the guards red. It is a Porsche color and used to be cheaper than a lot of the newer reds.

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

Keep in mind that reds are usually higher in price (for materials) than others.Something to do with the pigments used.I second the idea of going to the paint supplier and looking thru the chips.

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

yes, every painter I've ever talked to says red is the most expensive. Viper Red is another very popular choice as well. If I were keeping it GM, I'd go with victory red. Here's my '69, it has a nearly 20 year old single stage paint job on it, and I don't know what the code is (I was only 10 years old when my grandfather had it painted!). Looks okay in pics, not so much in person...

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

Victory red is real bright.
We painted a hood on an 09 charger in the factory red like it came and it was over $100.00 for a 1/2 pint just to do the hood. to do a whole truck in red be prepared to spend over $500 just for paint. Not including any clear if using 2 stage. Thats why you can't waste shop materials.
Dupoint has some real bright red.

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

I guess I better price this paint first. LOL I'm only after single stage acrylic enamel so it shouldn't be too bad. I didn't pay any extra for Hugger orange when I did my Chevelle so might not be a problem. I'm not even sure if my supplier has paint chips anymore. I'll ask. Everything is done with computers now.

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

Do you want pure red, like the Porsche and Viper reds?Cuz I know a red that is still red but not pure red.My`90 Blazer came with Torch Red and it has a slight tint of orange against absolute red and looks red any other time.Check that one out.

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

I like reds that can in no way be mistaken for orange. That tends to make them not quite as bright as some others. I really like the red found on new vw bugs. I had a 34 5 window that we did in the late 80's that we used jeep cherokee red on, it was pretty bright but still very red. While on the subject, I'm currently searching for a silver for my 68 el camino. I want a very clean, bright silver with no hint of gray or champaign. I like the new mazda silver and the mercedes silver as well. Any other ideas?

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Need suggestions for a nice bright red paint

I sell auto paint for a living and have some very important suggestions. DO NOT SHOP FOR COLORS ON A COMPUTER your monitor will not show the same color and you will most likely be disappointed. Color chips are great for finding a general color or matching an existing color but are generally to small to get a good idea of what it will look like on the vehicle. I suggest hitting the car lots and finding a vehicle on the lot that you like the color on then take the year, make, and model to your paint supplier. If you plan on using Dupont go on and grab the vin if it is newer than a 97 ( they can hone it in closer by plant and day that car was sprayed). If you are going to go by the chips see what the smallest amount they can mix is, or if they can do a spray out panel for you. Take any chips, and spray outs outside and look at the color in the sun and shade vertical and horizontal, I have seen a lot of reds that go brown in a vertical shady area. Good luck I know you will find a good red. I like ford vermillion red. they may be able to put it in a rattle can for you as well you can make your own spray outs that way.

Jaguar always had some nice silvers, in my opinion.

I can't imagine why you don't want to paint it orange, but Viper Red is one of my favs.... looks awesome on whatever you paint it on.

Yes red is expensive. IMO the Bmw and the Audi reds are some of the brighter and better reds that I've seen. What would I know though I just paint cars for a living.

Normally, I would love to go with orange but I have a 72 Chevelle that I painted Hugger orange and don't think much of having 2 cars painted similar. I think one would probably end up making the other look bad. Then I would be repainting again!

I wish I could find the BMW I saw about a week ago. It had a really nice BRIGHT shade of red. I don't know what year or model it was. I tried searching the net but didn't find anything.
