I have one from a '75ish? Got the front crossmember, steering gear, brake goodies, and some other random crap for less than $100 of a parts truck on CL.

I know when I did it on my '69 it was a bolt in swap for the MC and prop valve. Haven't gotten that far on the '66.

I HAD a bone yard master but it failed so I spent a couple bucks and just bought a new one.

Save yourself the aggravation and do the same.

I agree! Why use old junk for something as important as brakes?
A booster- I can see, but most new master cylinders now days are only $20- 25 at most parts stores.

Can you use a 73-87 booster in these trucks, will it bolt up without too much trouble, or is it worth it buying the 450 dollar booster and master cyl kit from LMC that supposedly fits well, I have an 86 chev front end installed, have the prop valve, hoping I can use the booster off the junker truck and buy a new master from napa. If I can use 86 booster does anyone have any pointers for the install.

Re: What bone yard master cylinder and booster are you using?

I used a booster from a 79. I cut the rod and graphed in my 65 adjustable rod from the brake pedal. Had to put a sleeve over it and weld it up. The master is for a 75 and it was bought brand new not rebuilt. After loosing many brakes in cars I just won't do the rebuilt stuff anymore. Just personal preference.

Re: What bone yard master cylinder and booster are you using?

To use a '73-'87 booster you will have to drill some holes. I don't know where they come out on the inside in relation to support ribs and such. Also with those boosters/masters you don't get as solid a connection between the booster and pedal bracket as you would using the factory bolt holes. Plus IMO the '73-'87 booster brackets just don't look right on anything but a '73-'87. I have never used one on a '60-'66. That is why I started making my booster brackets 23 years ago.

You can add power brakes for a bit less than $450 using my booster bracket and a compatible booster with a new or rebuilt master cylinder from your local auto parts supplier. With those aftermarket boosters you still have to drill some holes since they are just universal aftermarket boosters with universal brackets.

Re: What bone yard master cylinder and booster are you using?

You can see what Capt is talking about in this picture. After reinstalling my booster I forgot to cut the top of the bracket off. I painted it and put it back on and really don't feel like changing it because my brakes work perfect.

So far I have experienced two universal power brake boosters and I didn't like either one. One was real touchy and the other was braking really close to the floor. Also you do have to drill the top holes to get it in and trying to get a nut on the inside under the dash is a real pain.

I will be doing the same kind of swap in my other truck and I will have to give Capt a ring and get a bracket.
