Swapping the front clip

So right now I have a 68 GMC clip on my K20. Im going to put a 72 Chevy front clip on it instead. I have all the correct sheet metal. Just need to know what I need to do to mount the new core support. Seems like the doughnuts and bolts are different ... or maybe they are different on 2 wheel to 4 wheel?

No real idea ... help a fella out

Pretty sure all you have to do is drill the front core support mounts on the frame to accept the later model bushings on the 72 core support . East peasy !

Re: Swapping the front clip

you would need the 69-72 core support mounts.

i do believe the 68 gmc bumper is differnt than a 72 chev. also the outer brackets.

front headlite harness.
well you could use the gmc harness on a chev clip but it will take some modding to make the single 72 chev headlights work correctly. not to mention side marker lites that actually lite up on a 72.

dont get me wrong i like the 71-2 grills but the gmc is so much less common.
even with the slightly missmatched colors on your truck i would leave it be till i was ready too paint.

Re: Swapping the front clip

I'm not positive , but I think the core support is the same at the mount area, as long as the mounts match the frame , 67-68 , or 69-72 , just re-use whatever core support mounts were there.

I have the correct bumper and brackets. Believe me I tried to love the quads headlights, but I just really love the Chevy more.

And looking at pics of a ton of 4x4s, and my last two, I really like the largeness of the 71/72 front on a 4x4.

And I did forget about the harness, but I have boxes of harnesses, so Ill see what I have there.

It's the little things that we so often forgot about that makes a small project take forever. I know all about that.
I wasn't sure if your clip still had a light side harness in it but I figured I would mention it.

And I totally agree on the 71-2 grills they are sweet. It's just around here I really don't see gmc grills very often.

Im keeping everything except the grill, it will be going to Maryland when I get around to doing the swap.

The GMC fenders and hood are the same as 67-68 Chevy and the core support is easily changed to Chevy, so Ill be keeping that too.
