69 Chevy SWB Fleet Lowering Advice
My 15 year old son and I pulled his truck into the shop today. We are trying to figure out what drop to get. The truck will sit with 15 inch ralleys. He basically wants the top of the wheel to sit flush with the bottom of the fender lip front and back. Anyone know what drop to get..? Thanks in advance

Re: 69 Chevy SWB Fleet Lowering Advice
My son's and I made up some blocks for the rear and installed longer u-bolts to get the drop we wanted. The truck that we did this on was completely assembled so it was just a matter of measuring the amount of drop we wanted and making the blocks to correspond. In our case the blocks were made as a weldment 2" thick so the u-bolts were made 2" longer. The blocks were made to fit between the trailing arms and the differential with the u-bolts going through the blocks. The front of the truck had a good height so it was left as is.
Springs are available in various drops, but you may want to get the truck together before changing the height.. Jim

WWOTR Thanks for posting your sweet ride. Your truck has a rake to it also. Seeing your truck makes me want to swap out for the GMC grill, we have been going back and forth.

Re: 69 Chevy SWB Fleet Lowering Advice
Got the kit installed today....well most of it. Not sure of the front end, it sits lower than the rear. And that with no motor. Maybe the completed box should suck it down. Should it sit level? Thanks guys...

Re: 69 Chevy SWB Fleet Lowering Advice
CPP, McGaughey's, and others... check the parts board as most people are generally sellings various parts from other projects, or post a WTB ad.
Also, with a 6" drop (like mine) a c-notch is not required. I highly recommend shock relocators and new lowered shocks for the ultimate ride. Check out my build thread (Blank Slate) in my signature for the complete install of the 4.5/6" drop kit along with a disc brake upgrade.

Check out www.porterbuiltstreetrods.com.
Nate Porter has re-written the book on C10 suspensions for 1960-87 trucks. Literally. He has the latest and greatest products out there for lowering these classic trucks. From mild drops to "laying frame". Nate is also a suspension dealer for several major companies,... so he can hook you up with drop spindles, shocks, brake kits, etc. Take a look at his products! Plus he's a board member here, so you can send him a PM here,... or email him on his website.

Re: 69 Chevy SWB Fleet Lowering Advice
yeah, I think 5.5/7.5 is about as low as you'd want to go static dropped- you have to be able to turn the wheels! lol
I have 15" rallys and have a 5.5/7 drop. It works out pretty good. and I love LoLife's truck, that thing is badass! Here's mine: |

Re: 69 Chevy SWB Fleet Lowering Advice
There will be a "slight" rake to the truck, probably about .5-1.0" difference (maybe).
Overall as long as you have the front springs in the a-arm pockets right, you will be set. Looks good!
