I have Headman Headers on a 283 in my 67 stepper. The headers hang down past the frame so I am looking at putting on some Ram Horn manifolds.

Will these Ram Horns work? What should I look for to know they are in good shape?

Theyll work but the straight dumps will force you exhaust making guy to angle the pipe at a 90○ angle. But corvette rams are wider than truck ramhorns so thats a plus

Cool thanks for the fast response. I just sent the guy a message to see if he still has them for sale. Do you think I will lose a lot of horse power going to Ram Horns?

Take some scotch brite, rub em down. Check CLOSELY for cracks, check the mating surfaces.

If there is cracks can they be welded up? I know cast iron can is a dirty metal and can be hard to weld.

There are a few people who think they can weld cast iron and some can but an exhaust manifold isn't something I'd expect to last for long. Hit up Ebay and see what new manifolds are going for.

I would look some more. If your 283 is like mine, you want the manifolds that have the boss on them for mounting the alternator. I used to have my alternator on the lower mounting holes on the block but with the exhaust manifold I found, I could mount it up top and have more adjustment. Here's a picture of the manifold installed just before I moved the alternator up.

I have a set with the alternator bolt holes I just took off my truck. I believe the driver side has a crack. They can be welded and will work just fine. I work at an aluminum smelter and we weld cast that takes alot more abuse than exhaust manifolds. The metal has to be properly preheated and slowly cooled to keep from stress cracking. If not done properly it will crack immediately. The weld will show though and throw off the "clean" look.

With all that being said, Try to find some close by and if all else fails I will weld this set up and we will make some kind of arrangement. I just hate to see what shipping would be, they aren't light.
