Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
well i got the front end almost off. the only thing holding it on is that bolt thats at the bottom rear of the fender on the drivers side. i stripped it out so im gonna use the grinder later and grind it off. the horn is just something i got at pep boys a long time ago. it is REALLY loud. when i put it back together its going back on along with a dixie horn. i will take pics when i get the front end off. tomorrow the engine comes out. gotta get that POS 305 off my engine stand and make room the the 350 out of my truck. hey its a running 305 with very few miles on it but i dont have anything i want to ruin with a 305. lol

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
do yourself a favor, and us. keep as much of the resto documented. I had my blog going but there was some stuff in its early stages I didnt photograph or document. Mostly the engine removal and building the new 350. I REALLY wish I had some pics.

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
well i havent done anything new yet for lack of money except clean the frame and take out the seat and gas tank. i was gonna take the tank mounts out but my sub boxes fit into them perfect so im gonna leave them. i removed the 4-speed shifter and my buddy brought my new TH350 over. i traded him my 4-speed for it. i have a huge hole right in front of the shifter hole so instead of fixing it stock im going to make a custom trans tunnel. as for the floor in gonna clean it up and paint it, then fit some black indoor/outdoor carpet. also after i weld up a new tunnel im going to build a console to go under the dash, not a full length. im gonna weld up all holes including the glove box and make it smooth, but im leaving the hole for the gauges and im gonna use the stock bezel and add some aftermarket gauges. i have the metal and stuff laying around and my neighbor is letting me use his welder so its gonna be pretty much free to do all that. would like to add bucket seats but im not positive yet. lemme know if you like my ideas. just thought id let yall know.
thanks, John

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
well i pulled my heads and pan today to make sure im not gonna rip up my bottom end with new top end parts and my engine is in better shape than i thought!!!!! it cant have more than 3000 miles on it. its really fresh. so im gonna go ahead and rebuild the heads and put the new cam, lifters, and timing set. also gonna clean it up and paint it and dress it up a bit. gonna add headers and get new mounting brackets for my alternator and a PS pump. alternator was bolted to the exhaust manifold. i have the fairly new edlebrock intake and holly 600cfm i bought new a few months ago. just need some help tuning the carb. just thought id let yall know. ill take pics of the engine guts and post um tomorrow. porno for gear heads!!!!!!!!!! lol

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
well i think im gonna call her Grease Bucket . reason being when i took that engine out i discovered about 1/4" (literally) of grease coating the firewall and frame rails. for right now the stock 350 is going in but in a few months to a year when i get my "REAL" engine in it im gonna call it the Lie Detector because when you get in it will scare the truth out of ya(among other things)!!!! lol
btw: ive been trying degreaser, scrubbing, even gas to get the grease off with no luck at all. maybe its tar or something but im gonna try some of the stuff my uncle uses in his shop to clean these big truck engines. i think its called naptha? yall ever heard of it? i know it melts that **** right off.

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
My frame rails were about the same, maybe even 1/2inch in some places. I just scrapped it off and the remaining then I degrease it and pressure washed it.
I made that sound easy, but it took me a better part of the day. |

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
Yep, i pressure washed mine several times.....
Use oven cleaner for the frame rails and stuff......spray it on, wait an hour or so, and pressure wash again........it works pretty well..... Chad

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
I wouldn't use naptha. It is very flammable. The oven cleaner is a much better choice.

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
ok yall i have a new name in stone now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ive been grinding on my truck and have grinded off alot of body filler and uncovered small "whisky dents" all over the truck and while i was sanding and grinding i figured on just filling them back in. then the gears in my head started spinning!!!!! this truck has been around for 41 years and has seen alot of hard work in its day,and those dents give this truck its personality, they make it what it is. so im gonna leave the little dents and paint over them.
THIS IS NOW PROJECT WHISKY DENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John

Re: My 66 C10 Tear Down And Partial Restore........
tex-blast is charging me 650 to blast and prime everything minus my frame.
Probably be easier to just call around your local blasting shops and have them give you a quote. |
