Lowering Spring question

On the project I just got 65 swb the previous owners had already put new springs on it that lowered the truck. How can I find out what they put on it to get the correct shocks? Is there supposed to be a piece of rubber or anything that go on top or bottom of them? They pop pretty good when I start jacking it and sometimes just leaning on it.

Check the upper shock mounts and make sure the frame isn't cracked around the mounts. This is a pretty common problem with the 63-72 front upper shock mounts. I believe CPP and a couple of other companies make reinforced brackets if there is any damage in this area.

The springs themselves do not normally have any insulators above or below. If they were installed incorrectly the pigtail on the springs may not be fitted into the mounts properly causing noise during movement.
