71 Chevy LWB Custom Camper Finished and Representing
I want to start this thread by saying thank you to everyone on this forum for the amazing help in our project truck. I may not have asked many questions but that was because I usually never had to. The search feature and amazing feedback provided within this forum to others with similar issues almost always answered my questions. So thank you all for keeping and adding into an amazing resource for these trucks!
We took the finished truck to Hot August Nights in Reno. Ended up representing our trucks well being chosen as 1 of 6 finalists at Peppermill (for the entire week out of thousands of hot rods) and 1 of 25 on the big money night at Atlantis! It was surreal to be there with grandpa's truck winning awards. Also met a number of board members which was extra cool. I originally planned on doing a long "build thread" but just did not have the time. So instead of a build thread here is a "finished" thread. I performed a full write up on our blog (here http://bit.ly/1i00Jf4) but will check in here regularly for any questions or comments. Before After This was my grandfather's truck purchased new in 71. I eventually received it and from that first pic you can see that it was trashed. As life moved on and I got older and busier the project kept getting pushed to the side. I eventually conned Sierra Customs into doing a little restoration work and the project morphed into a completed frame off "modernization". The best compliment I get and it has happened a lot is "that thing looks brand new!" Here is a list of amenities:

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. |

Looks real nice. Id like to see a normal side shot if you have one. Those down low shots are pulling my eye right to the exhaust.

jocko - the racing stripes I can't take credit for. the idea came from this forum. Someone else did similar on a red 4x4 a few years ago. In this case we used the gray that was utilized as the racing stripes on the Synergy Green Camaros. black_sheep454 - I agree it is a lot of green. Originally the truck was the Olive Green and I am not a fan of that color. We literally went through the rainbow of choices, for 42 years it has been the big green truck, gotta stick to the roots. Synergy Green is probably the only green I would ever consider for these trucks and it looks awesome (IMHO).

I love everything about it. The color, the stripes, the wheels, even the green bow tie. Just my own taste, but the only thing I'd do is black out behind the grill.

Thank you we love it too. Blacking out - yeah that is something I have been considering too. I am also wondering if the new chromed egg crate grill would look better or not.

Re: 71 Chevy LWB Custom Camper Finished and Representing
as a fellow 71 Custom Camper owner - NICE JOB! I've never seen the lower trim paint treatment - I like it, resembles the original a little yet still qualifies as racing stripes! Congrats and thanks for sharing.
