will disk brake setup from 2wd work on 4wd with drums in front?
I was wondering if the disk brake setup off of my old 72 would work on my 4 wheel drive 68 i have now. I wouldnt think it would all work. But was wondering if any of the parts would work.

nothing at all is interchangable?
Like if i got a different spindle for my 68 i couldnt use the rest of the parts from the 72?

Go out and look at your truck and look at the hubs of the 2x4 truck. you 4x4 has 6 lug hubs and the 2x4 disk brake front end has 5 lug rotors. Plus the rotor and hub are one piece on the two wheel drive. I can't draw you any better picture than that.
The simple way is to swap the whole axle for one out of a 71/72 truck with the same gear ratio. And that will probably cost you less than trying to buy an aftermarket kit to put disk brakes on your front end. Last edited by mr48chev; 03-13-2011 at 08:14 PM. |

I have a 68 that had drum front I wanted disc so I put in a front axle out of an 84 K-5

any front diff from 71 thru 87 pickups and 71 thru 91 blazers and suburbans will bolt in. steering, brake lines , master cylinder and prop valve are different.
