Will newer 3/4 8 lugs fit on my 72 3/4 ton?

I have a chance to get new 3/4 ton takeoff rims and tires form a newer Chevy 3/4 ton, looks like 99 and newer, the newer body style. The backspacing appears to be close enough but was wondering if the hub centers and lug sizes are the same. The lugs also go with the rims. They are 16 X 6.5 rims, 8 X 6.5 bolt pattern(which mine is I'm sure), and the tires are 245/75/16 load range E Bridgestone V-steels. I can get it all for $750 shipped. I want to make sure everything will fit before I buy them though. Thanks.

If they the lug pattern measures 8x6.5, you should be ok. I would measure the diameter of the hub centers to make sure that there is room there. I do know that the newer truck use a 7/8 impact socket, and my 68 3/4 uses a 13/16 impact socket, so you may have to replace your studs and lugs, but i don't know for sure. I have been thinking the same thing. I don't know if any of this will help, but giving you the info. that I know.

I've always been told by knowledgable wheel and tire folks that the backspacing IS the problem. Stock backspace is 4-1/2", what are these?

YEs, they will fit but.... some of the newer Ford 8 lug are metric and will not. I would make sure that you fit them on your truck before you buy. I do know that the Ford through 98 will fit. Ive done it and all you need to do is paint the wheels.

Thanks, I talked to the Goodyear guy while getting my wifes tracker aligned and he thought it would work as long as the bolt pattern was the same. Unfportunately the rims and tires arent near me so I can't measure them. What is the backspacing of the newer trucks? Anyone know by chance?

I've seen them on several C 20's , if you have disc brakes the backspacing may be a problem to clear the calipers so check first.
The other problem if you want to run the later model covers you will have to get the lug nuts that accept the covers .

These wheels and tires are off a brand new Hummer H2. They barely cleared the brake caliper. This is the most common reason the newer wheels and tires don't fit. These wheels are 17" and you need the 4" centers also to fit over your floaters or lock outs this is the 2nd reason most new wheels don't fit our trucks. I paid 675.00 delivered for a set of 5 wheels and tires. BF Goodrich all terrain radials (retail at 249.00 each at a friends tire shop) If you want a set I will give you a contact. There are plenty more where these came from~! They look great and actually look like they belong on our trucks. I get compliments every time I take it out. They look absolutely nothing like they do on the Hummer 2 as the H2 centercaps really change the look of the whole wheel. I did have to lift it 4" to get the clearance for the tires they are 34" tall~!

My 72 does have discs but its only a 2wd. The last picture looks like they would fit but that truck has drums on the front since its older. Don't the newer trucks have at least the same size brakes as a 32 year old truck?

Brewski-If I can get the same deal or better for those rims but with shorter tires on a 2wd Custom 20, let me know what to do. I wouldnt mind having all terrains if they have a good load range. E mail me at mark_z28@yahoo.com with the info. That deal beats the one I was thinking of doing. Thanks.

All the H2 wheels are 17" with the 34" tires. I am idiot and did not read that your truck was 2wd. I am sure the brake calipers are the big ones if it is 3/4 ton. The calipers only clear the 17" wheels by about 1/8, 1/16", or less, so 16.5" wheels may not work. If the backspacing is shallow they may fit also. I am not sure if the 2wds have 4" center holes. If there is any way to test the wheels you want that is the clincher. My tire guy swore that these would not fit on my truck. He says he gets guys in once every couple of weeks that bought off the internet and the wheels don't fit after the add said they would. You might try going on e-bay and typing in 8 lug wheels. That is how I found the H2 deal. There aren't going to be many that fit but there is a ton of new take offs out there due to the demand for Bling-Bling stuff.

The guy said the rims have a 4 9/16 hole, or close to that. The bacxk spacing is supposed to be 4 and 15/16 if that helps. Theres no way 34 inchers will work on my truck , too bad though. The rear hubs should be the same as the 4wd rears since they use the same rears. I will end up paying near $800 shipped, I can't really afford that much so I will probably have to pass on them for now. There is a shop that does work with snap rings so I may just have to settle for stock rims and tires for now.

The backspacing on the H2 wheels is 5 5/8", which is why they come so close to the calipers. They will also come real close to hitting (or hit) the tie rod end on most 4X4 front axles. The bolt pattern (8 on 6 1/2"), and the center hole diameter are the same on all GM 8 lug wheels (all years), so no issue there. This is not true of the newer 6 lug wheels, which is where some of the confusion in the posts above comes from.

Hey Brewski,

Are you running late model 3/4 truck center caps on your wheels, or know anyone who is? I need to know what lug nuts to use so I can do this. I want to use the caps like the ones on the panel truck racedvl posted.
