I thought you guys would like to see what I found while walking through a Mopar dealer's junkyard. Yes, it is a 1972 Chevy pickup! It was last registered in the late 1980's and all the receipts were still in the glove box. Unfortunately someone took off the wheels and tires so it has been sitting on bare drums.

I found it interesting that there is nothing for the w/base and the last 6 digits of the Vin do not line up with the others. Why in 1972 are there so many mistakes in the glovebox stickers? Our original '72 glove box sticker has mistakes as well.

The tag looks like it has been reprinted a long time ago-the font doesn't look right. It also doesn't mention the power brakes option (the booster could have easily been added though). You said setting on drums, but it should have discs up front if it is a '72.

On your Glove box sticker I would be tempted to say it could be a Canadian built unit for purchase in US. Prolly also the reason for a too types of font on the sheet (part US Plant and part Canadian plant)...just a guess...anyone know for sure?? Seems possible as it is in New York State which is close to Canadian border...

in my trucks glove box it is missing the wheel base measurement too. it just says IN.

We get more than a few canuck trucks in the northeast. The VIN has a 1 in the plant position which I believe indicates Oshawa

It does look like a solid truck. I wonder if it "ran when parked"

Yeah, it has front disk brakes. I did not know how properly indicate that it has been sitting there all this time (maybe 10+ years) without any wheels or tires on it. It was just easier to say without getting technical. The owners manual in the glovebox was a 1972. I figured that was probably a good indicator. This truck was probably used as a work truck - I doubt anyone would have went to the extent to reprint the tag or change owners manuals. The built in Canada idea is certainly a possibility.

Yup that was built in Oshawa Canada.
I see it has some special equipment number listed: FTO636709 -- I wonder if that would be the power brakes shown in the engine compartment.

BTW I could really use those box sides. Thing looks pretty straight and solid. Can't belive it's not all picked apart! Haul'r home!

BTW, in picture number 3, who is that "distinguished looking gentleman" who's head looks like it floating right above the cab top? That really made me look twice like the picture was doctored or a ghost in the junk yard!!!!!

Hmmmmm.....It looks like a large hump cab with a three on the tree? I thought the large hump only came with a TH-400 or SM 465 4 speed?

Actually, no it is not!
In fact, I did not even ask the price. The owner was not around and I do not need another project at this point.

Dent free - yeah, it was rather unbeaten for a typical work truck. I am not really sure about how solid it is. Compared to many northeast vechicles, it is pretty solid. But I am just affraid that appearances can be decieving. I was surprised how complete it was. I saw it as more of a parts truck - not really something someone would want to restore.

If anyone is interested, I can try and find more information. The owner is strange sometimes. Usually it takes seeing $$$ before he will part with things but that has been the case with Mopar parts.

If anyone is serious about buying the truck or about parts, please send me what you need and your offer. Prices of scrap metal are very high right now and many yards are crushing any old metal left. It may explain why all the metal is in the back of the truck. Just a guess. I know the owner was getting a pile of scrap metal together to crush.

I wouldnt mind helping people get the parts they need but I dont really have the time, space, or desire to haul it home (2 hours) and part it out myself. Anyone interested in the whole truck must have a way to transport it (rollback with winch). I am not sure after all these years even if you put a set of wheels on it, if they would even turn.

I will try and contact the owner and see what I can find out.
