a fix to the carrier bearing problem

I now have in stock replacement rear drive shafts with a sliding section in it for LWB & SWB, 1/2 ton & 3/4 ton COIL SPRING trucks, these have been used in lowrider fullsize cars for a long time to eliminate the stress applied to the carrier bearing when they flex thier suspension up and down to full travel.

These driveshafts are NEW they are not salvaged from other vehicles and have a maximum travel length from 33" - 35 3/4" (all measurements are taken from the middle of the "U" joint to the middle of the "U" joint on the other end).

in the pictures the camera angle makes the measurments look incorrect but the measurments mentioned in the thread are correct

These are a new item and I am offering them here before I advertise them anywhere else, they are 150.00 (plus shipping).

Do you have a one peice driveshaft for a LWB C20? I'd like to get rid of the carrier bearing if its possible. Will the driveshaft be too long to balance correctly?

and the center support remains in place this replaces the rear part of the driveshaft to reduce the stress on the support

Just curious about a potential application (don't need one for myself but might help you sell more) how much do these slide? I'm curious b/c it might be a nice thing for people who are putting in later model transmissions (ZF, T56, 700r4, etc) that are longer/shorter than the stock TH350/SM465.

That's a good deal!! I used the urethane carrier bearing from Classic Performance and had the back half built just like that. That shaft cost me 450 Can. I could get that to Canada for less than 300. Too bad my money is already spent. Great idea. I had mine built for my Sub. Its is lowered 5" on the back and I was going through steady bearings every six months. No problems now. Michael

Hey Shawn.......

A rule of thumb question... How much does a truck (68 C10 LWB) need to be lowered before one needs to think about altering the driveshaft? I think I will wind up with about a 4.5" to 5" total drop in the rear.

Also, does this include a carrier bearing for that price? If not, how much are those, and do you sell them. Mine is totally shot!

I am actually at this point right now. Getting ready to go buy u-joints and a carrier bearing... just as well do this now if I need to.

it doesn't include the carrier bearing (it just replaces the rear section of the driveshaft).

I don't carry the bearings but, if someone here knows where to get them feel free to chime in.

It moves a total of 2 & 3/8"

How about us GMC guys

Anything thing coming down the pipe for the leaf spring crowd?

I have a 2.5" front 4" rear drop. Will I have problems with my carrier bearing?

Is the a difference in the driveshafts for a 4X4 & 2WD LWB (leaf springs)? Both my 4x4 shafts are one piece.

OK guys, I guess I will be installing the first one of these from Shawn, so my 68 will sort of be the test bed. I ordered one today, and will install next week and give my opinion on it.
