Question 700R4 wiring?

Do I have to add wiring/actuator or something inside a 700R4 tranny that came off a computer controlled car if I'm going to run it without a computer? Can I just buy the external wiring that runs off my brake lights and maybe add a toggle switch to lock it up when towing in a gear other that O.D.?

I just wired up my new (used) 700r4 and am in the process of putting it in my truck, once I get my old 350 down... what do you need to know?

I think your links answered my question. I was wondering if I needed to pop the pan off and do some rewiring or change out some switches, or if all I needed to do was wire into the existing plug somehow to make my lockup work correctly. After reading those links I think I'll take off the cover to check/rewire and then add the brake and vacuum signal relays. I also want to add a temp sensor, do you know where I would install one of these?

when I pulled my pan off and begun the rewiring, I already had a temp sensor in there, you might too, if not I can send you one, I am not going to use it, but in order to wire it up I really dont know, maybe have to do some research.

After reading some of those links It seems all they want you to do is spend alot of money for such a change. My way of doing it is a little different. The one main thing the newer computer controlled units don't have that the older ones do was a shift valve train in the valvebody. And to me you need that so the TV system can control your lockup just as a vacuum modulator controls a th 350 shift patterns. And depending how you are using it you may need lockup in more than just 4th gear. To me that's just plain retarded, they need to lock up in 3rd as well and for trucks that do a lot of pulling trailer they should lockup in 2nd too. I always try to tell people these aftermarket sellers don't have to pay for the repairs their little kits cause. And one thing no trans should need is a temp switch, if it's going to get that hot you better figure out that problem and fix it. As far as what I would do to make yours work, I would of course add the shift valve train and take your tcc solenoid if it has a black wire on it which computer controlled ones all have, and ground it either inside the case or outside either way and then just make sure you have power to terminal A and make sure to run it through your brake switch, but you will have to make sure you have one from a cruise control equipped vehicle My self I would swap to a harness out of a 86 or lower and use the 4-3 downshift switch and the 3rd and 4th clutch switches out of the same trans. You don't need to spend a whole bunch of money doing this change. Anyhow I've rambled on enough but believe me, it's not as big a deal as these parts places want you to believe it is. I have a brother who drives a 66 Impala with a fuel injected 396 and it is sporting a 92 model 700R4 and it was done the way I described above and works perfectly with no help from Bowtie Overdrives or any of those places, just parts from my saved stock. The only thing you have to be careful of is making sure you have a valve assembly with the number 13 bore already drilled. In the early ones 87-89, they had 2 aluminum plugs in there instead of the valve train, but 90 and up they eliminated the number 13 bore alltogether. Good luck with yours, hope it turns out the way you want it.
