Question anyone willing to help me restore my 79 scottsdale??

hey everyone, i just bought a 79 scottsdale and i must admit, it needs alot of work and i don't know where to start , it has the original inline 6 cylinder engine w/ a standard 3-on-the-tree shifter, the interior is not too bad but could use some work, i want to swap the engine out for a small block 350 but i dont know where to start, i also want to put the lowest drop i can on it , airbags will come into play later when i get my paycheck , and i also want to put a new front bumper (roll pan) and a new rear roll pan on it, it is all primered but has never been painted for about 3 1/2 years, like i said, it needs alot of work, the transmission slips out of gear when in 3rd gear (very frustrating ), no power steering (i want to get power steering in it, is that possible?), and the entire dash is all cracked up and stuff , if anyone can help me or at least tell me where the best place to start is, then reply asap or send an emial to me at south_pole_04@yahoo.com
thanks,
joe

A v8 swap and power steering can be done with factory parts. The easiest and probably cheapest way probably be to find a complete v8 truck. You will need to change the engine frame mounts, radiator and shroud, and make some changes on the underhood harness.

You can use your existing trans or swap to an auto. The auto swap requires a column, shift linkage and bracket, and pedals. If you buy the engine separately you will probably want to get a long water pump engine and if possible all the pulleys and brackets on the front.

If you use the stock exahust manifolds try to get them with the engine also. Chevy moved the dipstick from one side to the other in 1980 and that can cause grief if you try to install the wrong combination manifolds and dipstick.

Hope this helps some.

The engine stands are the same for all inline 6 and 350 engines...you just move the mounts to the "8" location on the stands, all you may need are 350 "clamshell" mounts to mount a 350 in place of a 6.

Having a parts truck would be ideal though, but not necessary.

Good luck with the mods, starting them is like a drug...once you start you can't stop.
