GM Question From the Present
Yes I know this is off topic...but I'm hearing a lot of b^#@#%^g about certain GM products where I work. Two of the guys I work with have Montana Vans with less than 100 000 miles and have had to change both head gaskets and intake gaskets.
The more you talk about it, the more people you hear about that have had this problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said. |

the intake gaskets on the 5.7l vortec engine in the late 90s had to be replaced on pretty much all of the engines i beleive. my moms suburban had to be done. head gaskets are a different story.

I blame it on the dex-cool coolant.

Dex Cool is crap. The Vortec intake gaskets are plastic with rubber type stuff around the ports and water ports. The plastic cracks and lets the water out into the engine or outside the engine. As many problems GM has, try Dodge, they are the warranty and recall kings of all makes.

I own an All Tune and Lube and believe me, this isn't just a problem with GM's.

And don't blame it on the dex cool...while that stuff is junk, I see plenty of GM trucks come into the shop leaking green fluid on the floor through the intake gaskets.
Neer have much problems with fords leaking like that, and not many fleets have dodges. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 05-11-2004 at 10:33 PM. Reason: moronic typos. |
