Panel gas tank question...
Hey all,
I've got the gas tank out of my 67 C10 panel truck, and was planning on using it on my 68 Stepside. How many gallons does the tank hold? Somewhere around 20 I'm guessing. Thanks for anything.

Oh, I forgot. I'll also need a sending unit I'm sure. Are these tanks the same as a K5 tank?
Thanks

I think I read that they are 21 gallons. I wonder if larger tanks are available. I would like to have a larger tank in my panel someday, not that I could afford to fill it.

It is either a 21 or 22 gallon tank. And another one will fit right behind it. You can run two tanks.

Now that would be cool. What about flip-down tail lights for the filler neck? I think that's what I would want. Have to do both sides, though, with two tanks.

They make 33 gallon tanks for scouts. I bet that they'd slide right up into a full sized chevy frame...
Stock scout tanks are also reman'd and I also believe they'd fit up in there easy. I can take measurements and compare to frame width next time I'm in GA (I have a spare scout tank that's out of a vehicle), but I'm only going to do it if someone is interested. Just thinking it might be a somewhat inexpensive source for new gas tanks for you guys. The stock tanks are 19 gallon. |

My 72 burb had the same tank!!! It was amazing how much gas that thing held. I think I squeezed 45 gallons into it once. I tried to remove the tank before I junked that burb, but could not get it to drop. . . I would have loved to mount that under my 69 for some long road trips. . . . |

68stepside has a step side bed, so a flip down tail light would be interesting to say the least.
You could easily graft in a later model fuel door in a fender, and could even experiment on your kerfagled fender and try to get it right. |

Ya-you would have to have a really skinny filler neck... But I was talking about on my panel. I'm sure I've seen this before. '68 Suburban: are your tanks plumbed in together or do you have a valve for tank 1 or tank 2? |
