leaking gasket on carb?
Recently I have noticed gasoline stains on my carb, I was wondering if this could be from a leaky gasket or improperly torqued bolts?

Try tighting all the bowl screws. Just stains or is there gas on manifold?

it just looks like stains on the carb, no gas on the manifold, but it is leaking somewhere.

Normal condition --after a period of time gas will wick thru gaskets, pump rod hole, mist from pump squritor etc. Take a little carb cleaner and spray it every so often if you want it to stay clean.

No-just spray the outside to keep it clean.(will not hurt the inside to spray it though)

i've always wondered about that ... if you spray'd carb cleaner down the primary barrel ... are you simply washing gunk down and around you float needle ... i've heard of guys removing the idle mixture screws and spraying it around through there .... i guess my question is .. Can you do more harm then good with carb cleaner ????

I'd say it depends on the time and method it is applied.
To spray a whole can down the throat of a cold, not running engine would be a bad idea! To spay a little down a hot running engine would be opposite. Ect.... Personally I just clean the outside of the carb. If you need to spray it out inside to make it run better it is probally something else. I would rebuild the carb.
