First Post - How Much Space Is There Between Cab & Box?

I have just recently purchased my very own '72 Chev. 4X4 3/4 ton project truck. The clearance between the cab and the box is from 1/4" to 5/8". It seems tight. What might it have been originally? Thanks for your help! Martin
