Tremec tranny install
I was wondering who here knows what kinda work is innolved in installing a tremec? i have a turbo 350 that is slowly dying, and i dont want another auto. i was thinking about the tremec 5 or 6 speed. i know that i will need to find a spot to cut a hole for a shifter, build a crossmember of some sorts, and figure out a clutch of some sort. anyone have pics or the ability to point me in the right direction? thanx guyz

I did the richmond 6 in the longhorn, but did also look at the tremec tr3550, & the TKO. at any rate, you will need a good clutch setup(I highly reccomend the centerforce dual friction). my truck runs mechanical clutch linkage, with rod ends to smooth things out. the crossmember is custom built, but the trans bolted to the stock truck bell, took a 400 T yolk....& no driveline cut. here is a link to the tremec 5 spd... http://www.fortesparts.com/tremec.cfm Happy "rowin".....crazyL

Here is the thread that I talked about the install in my 71 short bed stepside. I has a 250-6. The shifter issues might not be as critical if you have a V8 in the V8 position mounts.

That last thread brings back something that i forgot to add.....my longhorn has a high hump pan, with about a 9" stretch to cover that Richmond. The shifter is right on the @ss end of the trans, & that sb is in I 6 position.....no fear tho, i have bucket seats

I put a T5 from an S10 behind my 350. The shifter is in the correct position. I had to put a spacer between the engine and tranny (the input shaft is long) and I made a driveline from the same S10. I used an 11" clutch from an Astro van.
