OK guy's. I need some serious help!
I am trying to install headers on my 72 Chevy truck.
The first set I bought was Dynomax part # 86003. Those hit the motor mount on the pass side. I could not bolt them up. So, I sent them back and ordered another set. I tried everthing even new tranny mount, and new motor mounts. The second set I bought were Hooker part #2552-1. Ceramic coated. I got the part # from Piston. He used these on his truck, and they fit great. These will not fit either. They are hitting on the upper control arm on BOTH sides. Has anyone else had as much problems installing headers? There are no signs of any frame damage or anything like that. Please help! Thanks, Nick |

interesting, ive got dynomax headers i bought from autozone last year and the fit great. my v8 is mounted in the correct v8 position which are closer to thr radiater.

So which mounting holes are the correct ones for a V8, the forward or the rear?
Is it going to hurt me in ANY way to move this engine/tranny to the rear mounting holes? Thanks for everyones help! Nick |

If you loosen the stands, you should find a little adjustment(in stock position). if all you need to gain is say approx 1/4" for clearance, you may need to drill , or slot the trans crossmember (center holes for the mount), & it wont cause any fitment issues on the driveline or anywhere else.....I agree with CPNE, i would leave it in stock position , as its aready to run. IMO, i would check the a arms 1st, & adjust as needed from there(minor adjust on the stands). crazyL

Try shorty headers or hone out some manifolds before you re-engineer the whole deal!

I am just going to reinstall the stock manifolds, and get the exhaust routed. Then this winter, I will worry about all of this.

cant rember the brand or # the headers on my other truck before i tore it apart.was the cheap long tubes and the drivers side fit fine but the pass side wouldnt fit till i raised the motor up a few inches.slipped header in set motor down and bolted everything up.come to think about it i believe they were blackjack headers
